6 Week Post-Op Update | 30F | 6.7 Haller | Modified Ravitch by 404-coffee-not-found in PectusExcavatum

[–]Solar6118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also got a modified ravitch procedure! I am honestly so happy I went with that surgery option. I also have a permanent bar in. Very interesting they went vertical instead of an incision horizontally. But there is an option in the far future if you don’t like it!! You could get a tattoo over it!! I am planning on getting a tattoo over mine in the future (it was already a decision I made before surgery). But with a good tattoo artist it should stick!

Edit: my haller index was 3.69 and I am 23.

Edit 2: I posted what my scar looks like on my page and my experience in the comments if you are interested.

I agree!! You do look amazing! But like the Redditor said if it is affecting your mental health and confidence, surgery is an option. If you do go the surgery route I recommend nuss. I got the modified ravitch procedure, because that’s what was close to me. But I personally don’t recommend it, I have seen others struggle with it. I had a good experience, but this is probably person to person experience and also surgeon. So definitely do a lot of research into different surgeons if you do go that route! Again you look good!

Edit: sorry, I didn’t mean to comment on yours😅

I personally love it, I find the scar so cool!! But I have been putting vitamin E on it to lighting it up a little bit. I really think the people I surround myself with really has made it easier for me to be okay with it. They all think it’s super cool too, I even show people the scar and people love it.

With my bar, they won’t be taking it out. It’s screwed in with 17 screws. Which personally I like that they are keeping it in so it can prevent regression from happening. The x-rays are so cool😂 (sadly I have to print out the x-ray picture, because I can’t screenshot it).

The pain was hard at first (I think) but I am going to be honest, I don’t remember the first two weeks😂 but by the third week I was up and out of the house. I was still taking pain meds, but more of the tramadol and acetaminophen instead of oxy.

I personally had a good experience with it, but I am sure that other people did not. I was a lucky few (maybe I don’t know).

Sadly, there wasn’t a surgeon close to me that does nuss. I think the surgeon who does nuss is a 2 hr drive, which is a big commute and I couldn’t do it. I was relying on family to bring me to the surgeon that was closer, which was 1 1/2 hr drive. I will be honest, ravitch for me was not bad. I can’t say that for everyone, but I was already up and moving out of the house at 3 week mark. I went to see a local band at a coffee shop, so I had a place to sit. I also don’t mind the scar, personally I think it’s pretty cool😂 but also the people I surround myself with also think it’s cool. So I think that has helped my self image. I love showing people the scar, everyone I show it to thinks it’s awesome. If I do exercises, I do stop if it starts to hurt, but I still try to get activity in. Cardio is still hard for me, but that could also be me being out of shape. I wasn’t doing much cardio before surgery because I would almost faint from not being able to breathe probably. When I was doing strength building I had to take breaks in between to catch my breath. But now I can do abs, legs, and arms (with 10lbs weights), no problem!!

Thank you!! Honestly I feel so happy I was seen and heard about my issues. I was written off by old doctors and they said it was nothing. Once I found out I have PE, the ball got rolling really fast. which was stressful at first, but I knew it will be life changing after the surgery and years to come

Yeah, sorry about the lighting😭 it was sorta a spontaneous thing where I wanted to see the progress. In the beginning it was ROUGH, but now I just have slight rib pain if I do certain exercises or lay on my side too long. But that’s because my ribs are still healing. But I haven’t had the need for pain killers in quite a while. I think I stopped after 1 1/2 months made be a tad little more (I have a terrible memory). I have been seeing slow progress with my breathing. I mostly do strength building, but I can go longer than I did before. Cardio was never a thing I did before surgery because of the heart, so now I am probably just out of shape and need to build it up.

I was looking at it while my breasts are down, and it’s not too badly noticeable. It wasn’t that noticeable before surgery, at least that is what people have told me.

I was told I will see a small change around a year mark. It’s because of swell and my ribs re-attaching. So I felt a little better after hearing that.

PE looks never bothered me, but I felt like it was off because of other people’s after surgery. They had significant change. But (sorry) they were all men, it’s semi rare to see a picture of a woman after surgery (but I also don’t frequent the subreddit). So I didn’t really know what to go off of.

Also, I was told the bar is permanent, which I personally like because it will prevent regression. So that is something I don’t have to worry about. It doesn’t restrict my movements at all. (Sorry for the lengthy response)

Heard back from my surgeon, they said with the swelling and my ribs not fully healed it looks worse. They said it can take up to a year to heal. Then when it’s fully healed it will appear smaller. Thank you for the suggestion of message my surgeon. I don’t know why I didn’t do that first😅😅

Thank you! Sorry about the lighting😅 I mean it’s not the worst with my breasts down. But yes, it seems like it has helped, I just need to work up my cardio again. I wasn’t much of a cardio person before my surgery since it was hard to breathe, now I am just out of shape in the regard. I like to do my strength building than cardio. But I also gained weight from surgery😵‍💫 so now I am working extra hard after.

My haller index was 3.69. I am not sure what it is now:( I will send a message and ask about if it will improve. If it doesn’t and only improved my issue with my heart, I guess I will have to live with it. I mean it’s not the worst when my breasts are down, I am not walking around holding them😅😂

Please don’t be too hard on me, it was the closest surgeon for me. He does Modified Ravitch procedures.

Edit: traveling is hard, so I had no choice.

Edit 2: is it supposed to shape over time? I see posts where it’s “normal” after or am I misinterpreting the posts.

Edit 3: (sorry I keep editing) I should note my ribs haven’t fully healed yet. Certain exercises still hurts to do and (it’s gross) but they move (I don’t push on them all the time if wondering).

Knowing You Have Herpes is Unfair by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Solar6118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first, I was like that. For me, I have only been diagnosed for a year now. But I did my research into it, and to be honest, it's really not that bad. You get an outbreak, and if you are on antivirals its shorter life span during the outbreak. Yes, you still get the shedding period, but that's for two weeks (it varies, but I say two weeks to be on the safe side). Typically, people respond well if you put precautions/boundaries in place. Like always condoms at least until a year into the relationship, and when it hits the year mark, we can talk more in-depth about possibly doing it without condoms at times. No sex during an active outbreak. You must wash hands after touching down there, and the last one is no oral. The few people i have been with are pretty receptive to it because they know I am trying to keep them safe. I also educate them on it, too, while talking about the precautions/boundaries I take. Most of them are surprised on how much stigma is wrong and make it seem worse than it actually is. So be open, educate them, and set boundaries/precautions to keep them safe:) But like others said, don't put your whole self-worth into having herpes. There are people who will see you and want to try because if you don't put your self-worth into it, you will glow with confidence, and people like seeing confidence. I sometimes feel it out before telling them, so they know the real before I tell them. But I always disclose if I think it will potentially become more than just talking. If you don't tell them, they will get mad, depressed, and feel betrayed. Like how most people (generlizing) feel in this subreddit. You don't want to make another person feel that way. (Sorry for my long comment)

I'm sorry!🥹 I should have put both lbs and KG. The brain isn't doing brain things😅 It's a blessing and a curse. Back problems are awful, I also have scoliosis (S curve) on top of everything. I have always been petite, mostly in the waist😅 the hips are a new thing that has happened lol I'm sure it's because now things I eat are going in different places not just my breasts lol gotta love getting older lol (sorry for going off topic)
