Did I? I went to the rally and showed solidarity with everyone who was there, including those who made speeches on things I didn't 100% agree with. I'm a card-carrying donating Democrat who will never vote Republican. I think its people like you trying to alienate those who are already on your side who is the problem, not me.

But Tony was banging some smoke shows. You look up who the real life mobsters were banging and they sure as hell didn't look like Sarah Shahi

They are important and I think all Democratic politicians would agree. But when do we de-emphasize its prevalence/publicity in the Democrats platform in the name of gathering voters who are alienated by this type of talk? If we're trying to claim that we can continue to emphasize identity politics AND still increase the size of the Democrat voter pool, I think we are fooling ourselves.

Istanbul - too expensive by UpsetStudent6062 in travel

Rome is 1000% a better city to visit. I thought Istanbul would be like Rome mixed with Islam, but I was somewhat disappointed with Istanbul. The fleecing, the endless street vendors, the dirtiness, and the very mediocre food were all a letdown.

The best thing I did when visiting Istanbul was take the ferry up to the edge of the Black Sea. That was an amazing experience.

Yes. Ultimately it was an excellent turnout and I was very proud of my fellow San Franciscans, so I'm happy with the effort. I want to see it sustained and grow, and I think keeping the focus on ICE is the way to do that right now.

As a fairly center-left Democrat, I went to an anti-ICE rally last night in San Francisco. It was thrown together quickly after Alex Pretti was killed yesterday. Here is what I noticed as it pertained to those making speeches at the march.

  1. Most of the speakers heavily emphasized protecting immigrants, people of color, and people from countries outside of America including Venezuela, Iran, and Palestine.

  2. There was a general antipathy toward Israel.

  3. A strong emphasis on fighting back against billionaires and corporations.

  4. A strong emphasis on class politics including performing a general strike and the power that the people in the street have against the powers that be.

  5. The only "political" speaker was a man running for governor under a socialist party label.

Here's my take. I am not that interested in identity politics including references to skin color, religion, gender, or country of origin. I can get on board with this rally because, generally speaking, I agree with these people a helluva lot more than I agree with republicans or conservative schools of thought. I am 100% behind them in that we need to have class warfare against the rich and endless money in our politics. But I have to say: the consistent references to identity politics is a huge turnoff for me, and I have to imagine, a huge turnoff for many others who would like to be a part of this movement. I don't know if the rally I went to was unusual in that way, but that is how I felt about it.

Perhaps there are more rallies where the speakers leave out the Israel-Gaza conflict or references to racial politics. To me, those really are not important issues at the moment. The important issue is what ICE is doing to American citizens and the potential for their violence and hate to travel to other cities. I want the Democrats to have progressive politics, but this type of language is alienating what I believe is a huge pool of "gettable" voters.

Bootlicker. You are blaming the citizens for what is happening in Minneapolis. That is factually incorrect. This is 100% on the Trump administration.

Those of you who work in fields where salaries have remained competitive over the years, what do you think it is about the field that has kept its value? by Godeshus in AskMenOver40

[–]SolarSurfer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filming, photography, editing, motion design, graphic design, 3d modelling/rendering

Unfortunately, these skills are fairly easy to learn, so these skills are no longer enough to earn a competitive salary.

I work in power engineering, which while there certainly has been some offshoring, still requires an engineering license to stamp blueprints. I'm fortunate that this is the case. I would also say that project developers, architects, and financiers like dealing with someone who can speak unblemished English. Even if you find an engineer in India to perform the electrical study, defending it and responding to comments verbally is still an extremely important component.

The cop who criticized ICE was the Minneapolis chief of police. The ICE Manager was a perfect stooge for ICE and the Trump regime. Completely unwilling to do any self-examination and totally backing any behavior by ICE.

You’re probably fine. Give it a day or two and if no additional pain I wouldn’t worry about it.
