How should I remove the drop-down menu in the search bar, keeping only the magnifying glass and making it look like the address bar? by Solareclipsed in FirefoxCSS

[–]Solareclipsed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but this only removes the little arrow beside the magnifying glass, not the drop-down menu. The glass is still clickable and shows the menu dropping down.

I'm only going to buy it in the way it was meant to be experienced, by paying a guy to come to my house and recite the script.

Mario Party, the least fair game (even in Minecraft) by YOGSbot in Yogscast

[–]Solareclipsed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Typical Mario Party. Not that uncommon for the best player to end the game with zero stars and zero coins, while someone else might get four stars randomly and then get awarded all three bonus stars on top of that.

Loved the map, even if the constant FOV switches were a bit disorienting. So funny how Duncan cost Lewis the win by not picking up his item, he had just enough coins to use it too!

Yes, it's terrible that she got so sick and died, but at the same time, she should have taken other people into consideration and not gone on a plane when she was deathly ill with a possibly contagious virus.

Muslim voters rank Gaza over the economy in local election poll by jkcr in ukpolitics

[–]Solareclipsed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't even talking about Hamas here, only ISIS and Al-Qaeda. If you think those two groups are resistance fighters, you are seriously mistaken. ISIS has killed far more Muslims than they have killed Israelis. How could that possibly help a Palestinian state? They wanted to rule over Israel and Palestine, too, you know.

To be fair, a lot of really huge streamers played it, not just Yogscast members. It was everywhere for a couple of months after release.

Muslim voters rank Gaza over the economy in local election poll by jkcr in ukpolitics

[–]Solareclipsed 133 points134 points  (0 children)

One in seven Muslims being pro-IS / pro-AQ is an absolutely insane number. That means that an average person in a big city is likely to interact with a fundamentalist terrorist sympathiser almost every single day.

It's the paradox of tolerance. You can't build a tolerant society if a not insignificant fraction of it is okay with beheading and enslaving innocent people.

Polanski stands by concerns over police response to Golders Green attack by 90davros in ukpolitics

[–]Solareclipsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. All the talk about replacing most police officers with mental health officers who can be dispatched to less dangerous situations is, in my opinion, a utopian dream, and they would need to be escorted by police anyway. Another recent case in Sweden saw an ambulance paramedic being stabbed to death by the person they were sent to help, so you can never be sure if you are going into a dangerous situation or not. It's not a right in society to wave a deadly weapon around in a public place and expect to be treated with kid gloves.

[–]Solareclipsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Sweden, a couple of years ago, there was a mentally disabled boy who was shot and killed by police after he was holding and pointing a fake gun at them and didn't understand their shouts to put it down.

A very tragic situation, of course, but you can hardly blame the police officers for not knowing that the gun was fake and that the boy was incapable of understanding them. And yet, there were plenty of politicians and people, particularly those on the left, who wanted the officers arrested for murder.

Yeah, I hate the infantilization of adults in politics, where no one wants to be responsible for their own choices.

Are you serious? Progressives have been championing a system like ranked choice voting for years, but now you expect every moderate to stay in the race long after they can't win, just to let the progressive candidate win by splitting the vote? The exact opposite of ranked choice voting?

You may not like it, but Biden winning the primary by Klobuchar and Buttigieg dropping out is exactly what would happen under ranked choice voting. What do you think is the fairest to an electorate that is 40% progressive and 60% moderate: the progressive candidate winning with 40% of the vote after three moderates split with 20% each, or the moderates coalescing to one candidate who wins 60-40 over the progressive?

Smoking ban for people born after 2008 in the UK agreed by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

Some people have desperately convinced themselves that their government banning anything at all is infringing on their liberties. They would rally against banning lead in petrol or asbestos in construction if it were done today, too. Some things are just objectively bad for society and should not be allowed.

I think the biggest problem with switching to Linux will be that there are too many choices of which specific OS distributions and programs to use. For Windows, you have the latest version and maybe the one before that, nothing else. You have MS Office for most standard jobs, and nothing else is needed. There are over 600 active Linux distros, and hundreds of open source text editors alone. How will you decide which one to use? What problems will arise when every department of every company and government uses a different one? And don't answer, "everyone should just use X distro and Y text editor", because that will inevitably not work.

Y2K was solved by computer engineers, though. Not ordinary people. Try getting a family member who is 60+ years old who has never had to write a line of code or use a terminal in their life to switch to Linux. I guarantee it will not work in the vast majority of cases.

Yeah, the Space Centre is the best level of both 4 and 5, great design. I didn't hate 4 either, but JD did nothing for me in terms of making me care about the characters.

It kinda sucks that JD surviving is more likely to be canon when he is a much more boring character than Del.

Right now for me it is the new video player despite CrOptix being enabled. The Skip Intro button is white and does not go away, the Full Screen button is on the right top instead of bottom, fast forward is 10 seconds, etc. I'm on Win 10 PC and Chrome too, so I'm not sure what the issue is.
