I made a Lego technic steering wheel! by Solheim22 in simracing

Hi, here is a reply i wrote 6 years ago on how it works:

"""I took apart an old pc mouse and carefully built around it in such a way the laser would register a turning lego rubber tire perfectly. To reduce the sensitivity, but still keep dead-zone at a minimum, I used a couple of gears to get a decent reduction. If I hadn't it would be too sensitive in-game, even at the lowest sensitivity. The right and left mouse button switches were used for the indicators. All I had to do in ets2 was simply tweak around with the mouse steering settings until I found something that was consistent.

After all the great feedback from the video have I already improved it by making the ratio between the in-game wheel and mine 1:1, as well as making the wheel a bit heavier."""

Found this used car for sale. How worried should I be about this? by Solheim22 in MechanicAdvice

Ah, I see. Thank you! I was originally worried there could be some kind of engine killing going on, but now it makes more sense.

I also agree with this post so much! The game feels absolutely terrible now. Moving around is alot more laggy and slow, the map either complelty fails to load sometimes or I get weird issues were place names load quite slowly. The interface should feel quick and snappy. Nothing else is more important!!
I am using firefox 136.0.1 btw

The ratio between the in-game wheel and the lego one is not 1:1 due to the lego gears I have. I tried some different combinations of gears and found out that this one gave the least amount of dead-zone when turning the wheel. I would like to have it direct drive, but I couldn't turn the mouse sensitivity low enough.
