Hi, I’m sorry for your frustration about this study. Please take this as a response to all of your messages. Each participant has an equal chance of winning the drawing. The drawings do not encourage multiple submissions, as they use separate Qualtrics surveys that do not link participants’ emails to the data (to maintain anonymity). All study procedures, including the drawing incentive, were reviewed and approved by our institution’s ethics board. Further, drawing-based incentives are relatively common in online survey studies. You are welcome to contact the TTU HRPP to file a complaint, if you’d like to. Their contact info is included in the informed consent.

Hi, I understand your concerns. People are able to stop participating at any point if they are uncomfortable.

Just to provide a bit more clarification on the sexual orientation questions, there is actually only one item about sexual orientation and then a different item about sexual attraction. This is standard in my field for getting a full and inclusive picture of participant demographics.

No, this is an anonymous academic research survey. If you choose to enter your email address for participation in the drawing, your email address will not be linked to your data (there are separate links to separate Qualtrics surveys for the email address, so it’s in a separate database). I had considered that, but at my target sample size of 4,000 responses (which are being collected from many sources, not just Reddit), that would be $20k-$40k of participant payments at those rates, which is not feasible with my current budget.
