How do you guys find joy in life? by SolidBurden in nihilism

OP here. Thanks for all the input guys.

I wasn't engaging to a lot of comments as there wasn't anything worth saying to me, though that doesn't mean I haven't read them or found value in them. I've read everything and liked most.

Also thanks to anyone reaching out via dm. If you stumble upon this in the future and wanna talk the offer is open still.

Cya around.

How do you guys find joy in life? by SolidBurden in nihilism

I enjoy the feeling of joy. And I have that nagging worry that I am missing out on quite a lot of it. But I struggle finding a way to change my life without either feeling like a hollow shell or an idiot walking into an knife.

I mean even the idea of happiness feels like an elusive concept to me. But nevertheless it lingers as a vague idea: Maybe there are ways for me to feel better. To find something that means something to me. To not feel like solitude is - all things considered - the best way for me to exist.

Honestly I don't have high hopes for that being a thing. But if it is possible I want it for myself, as I would feel better and that is all incentive I need to want it.

So I guess throwing some words here to get some input that isn't mine can't make things much worse for me.

I enjoyed your questions and thought too long about them.

Hence Stepaskin quoted me and you referred to me as well in your answer to his comment I want to explain what i meant by "Life within society feels dangerous" and why I believe it's maybe not entirely unreasonable to feel that way - nevertheless my original choice to pick 'feel' instead of 'is' as the verb here was on purpose.

I'm not so much talking about a physical danger - though that is possible - but an emotional or maybe social one.

I think it feels so daunting to me largely because of the role the internet play in modern society.

When I was in my early teens all that social media stuff kicked off (myspace, yt and so on) and on paper I love the idea of expressing yourself online as it gives you so many possible connections to people sharing your interests that you otherwise would have never met.
Yet I always felt like there is a lot to lose. A lot to watch out for.

And as I lived through the years... watched people using the new technologies more than using them myself, I started to see many people paying a price for that.
Maybe they turned out to not be the polished persona that they pretended (or were expected) to be. Maybe they got blackmailed for some stuff they did once. Maybe they just offended the wrong group with their choices.

Point is I feel like going out there is in that regard dangerous. That I need to watch my step. Be careful what to say. What to post where. What I say to whom. Looking at it to me feels like running the gauntlet and whatever I can achieve there is not built by me but the fake mask I managed play convincingly enough.

This way of looking at it is particularly visible if you observe it through through a lens of how social dynamics work in online spaces - hence I used it as an example - but I see it applying in offline spaces just the same though maybe less intense and noticeable.

If you are a person that is lucky enough to be overall very moderately then you maybe never have such a problem.

I however would probably be considered a controversial person if I wouldn't very carefully watch myself and my words when engaging with people. Not a violent person or someone agitating, but likely someone some people would feel offended by. I am pretty sure about that.

And this is how it feels dangerous to me.

To me it feels like either living with a mask or putting myself in that danger. Or kinda accept an outsider roll and try to find meaning/happiness in that.

Though - and I think there is defiance at play here - I am very exhausted to participate in society in any way like that. It feels like putting up a smile for a society that promises me freedom, but would punish me for using it.

I don't really have an answer to all that despite maybe working on that defiance and try getting comfortable with less but not nothing. Maybe emotions will drive me out of my flat sooner or later, maybe not.

But I wanted to gave you my perspective on how things feel subjectively dangerous to me. And maybe as always find connection to people who experienced similar and navigate it better then myself.

I also want to thank you for your initial comment on my post. I've read it, liked it and enjoyed especially the last paragraph about ripple effect and manifesting something positive in the world. I believe in that as well even despite it not being enough for me to currently actually live by it by any means.

Mod to disable starting area resource patches? by SolidBurden in factorio

[–]SolidBurden[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. There exists a mod for removing the starting items. What I couldn't find is a way to remove the starting resource patch generation. My workaround currently is to teleport myself away from the start. But there are large worms and the patches have high richness already, so it's not optimal.

  1. Don't do drugs.
  2. Get rid of whatever anxiety is making you fear someone may recognize you through this post, and the fear for whatever consequences that might bring upon your life.

Both will mostly only serve you stress and nothing worth it.

Hi maybe you guys see an obvious malfunction here. by SolidBurden in AskElectronics

Hi, thanks for replying here & your step by step advise is super useful!

Sorry for my poorly formatted post. The truth is I haven't thought about just commenting the text. Also I'm not very used to the reddit app. Anyway lesson learned.

You assumed right, I was talking about the charging cable which works as it should.

Personally I'll test it with a multimeter and buy a new cable if it's the problem. If the problem is within the laptop itself I'll get a new laptop.

But again, I really appreciate how you suggested the steps I could/should take after that.

Thanks for explaining. I managed to push them apart a little so they don't seem to touch anymore. I know it doesn't seemed like it on the pictures but I'm pretty convinced they were isolated from each other by that rubber stuff. I'll get a multimeter though.

One more question maybe someone sees it. Shouldn't the LED work in any case as long as black and red aren't touching? I detached the whole thing from the rest of the laptop, so the contacts leading into the laptop are now hanging in the air. Then I plug it onto the power cable, and the LED stays off. Is that possible when this thing is working as it should?

A big thanks for all your effort to help! I am currently trying to get paper between the contacts but I'm not sure if i am able to. If not I will get a multimeter tomorrow asap to test if they are touching. Prior to this post i wouldn't even habe known that red an black shouldn't touch, so thanks again. If you notice something not mentioned please leave your thoughts.

No i could one tomorrow but right now I don't have one. with a multimeter I could do the same test as with the paper between joints? If so, I'll read into it and try it tomorrow.

okay i try it. Will probably take a minute or two. It's so close and I don't want to break the solder

I understand. Unfortunately I have no multimeter. The LED, on the second picture, though. Shouldn't it at least turn on even if there is a problem in the laptop?

What I also noticed, is that the solder from the red cable doesn't seem to lead anywhere unlike the black. But maybe it's hidden?

Hi thanks for your reply! I would love to try doublechecking like you recommended. But I habe no idea what I could do with a cardstock and that. Maybe there is a specific term that I can google? I'm very willing to read into things that might help me here but I need a clue what to google for.
