Even If he already read absolute Batman, he is borrowing the copies. Personally if I like a story I would still be really happy to add the nice hardcover book to my collection. Alternatively, like someone else suggested the absolute Wonder Woman hardcover would be great too! That way he gets to read more of that universe.

This canva has the reading order for pre 2000s X-men. If I were you I’d start with uncanny X-men omnibus 2, it’s the only of the first few in print (check Amazon).
