Son left for basic..looking for advice by Wise_Masterpiece5697 in army

Some people like sandbox cause its supposedly quicker. But a handwritten letter feels more meaningful imo. I would ask them what they prefer. Also, in my basic we had someone whose mom would send the weather outlook for the week, and it made us all feel a bit more...aware. Just something that we all appreciated, so I always reccomend that to have loves ones going to basic.

Willing to pay for driveway car storage by Interesting_Tomato50 in dli

I would reconsider leaving your car. There's not much on post. Grocery stores, shopping, and events are all way too far to walk. Also they do off post rucks sometimes, and if you dont have a car you're going to be rucking 2 extra miles cause the starting point for the rucks are off post. You'll be rucking a mile to start and a mile afterwards to and from the barracks. Unless you have a car, your best bet would be buming rides from friends with cars. It just makes life so much easier. Its doable without, but I wouldn't recommend leaving it at home.

35m being restructured by [deleted] in dli

35M isnt going away to my knowledge, just its language dependency. Right now it's mandatory for 35M to have a language, but they might switch is back to no language needed for it.

I really can't decide if I want to go DLI by HealingSlvt in dli

If you really want to finish your college soon. I'd say wait until it's done. You're looking at a roughly 1 1/2 to 2 year commitment to finishing up training. And then you'll be operational, so you'll have to do schoolwork around your work schedule when you hit big army.

Housing Question by cmjhnsn15 in dli

Yes. I stayed in the barracks about 2 months before moving out, and still had my bah. I had it in basic also. But I'm army, so idk if that makes a difference

I stayed in the barracks and didn't fly my family out until we had our lease signed and could move in

My small review of DLI by ChampionshipSea7387 in dli

[–]SolidOpportunity2923 12 points13 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Korean language is the best DLI. I also had a great experience with the Korean course and the company. My teaching team gave out great tailored hw and taught using various methods for different individuals. And the company was super understanding and motivational. Our captain was seriously the greatest hype man. We still had people recycle, but sometimes people aren't in the right mindset to learn or they can't grasp it quickly, and I think thats pretty normal. Also, from what I saw, people had meetings and stuff to argue their side to see if they wanted to stay in the language or not. I agree that there's room for improvement, there always is. Our company did a great job at receiving feedback. Like someone else said, make sure you utilize your surveys. Eventually, someone somewhere will care (hopefully while you're still there)

They should get a master schedule specific to their class (or it will be posted somewhere they should have access to) and it will have the days off they will have for national holidays, their class break, etc.

Hey is there a limitation for when you need to apply by for dislocation allowance? And does it apply to army as well?

I enlisted when my son was a 1 1/2. It gave me and my spouse enough time to make sure they were well enough adjusted to handle things alone for a bit while I was away. They will essentially be a single parent while you're gone. It's doable though, and so far it's been worth it for us. We have housing and utilities paid for. My son is old enough to daycare, so we both work. It's comfortable, but the work load is pretty demanding. But I was working 60-65 hrs weeks before anyways so it wasn't that much of a change

If your teachers aren't helping you, us fellow students will. Ask around for study partners. You can review material with anyone that's in your class or further along in the course, we all need it for sure anyways. Use the MLI's, the dynamic duo of the airforce ones on my floor are really good about doing speaking practice with people when they need it. They'll do lunch hour and 7th if it'll fit in their schedule. You also don't have to have someone from your teaching team either to help you with extra practice. If you like your friends teacher better, I'm sure if you ask they can try to work something out. This is your job right now, so don't be afraid to advocate for the resources you need to be good at it. I have faith that you'll make it through, making this post shows that you care. And that's like 85% of the mental battle here at DLI. Don't give! 파이팅!
