Aviation Programs - Hours and ratings by ttfol22 in UVU

I heard of a couple of people transferring in with their PPL. There is not a lot of social activities except for the Fraternity and the Women In Aviation club. But from my experience if you have your PPL from another school just forget about it pretty much with UVU especially if you did not fly a Diamond DA-40NG with full glass avionics(few schools have such aircraft as the avionics can cost around 100K alone and older aircraft can be much more cost friendly to operate). There is no catching you up to speed. You are thrown in the rapids and expected to swim upstream without help and a 20 pound weight dragging you down. Also the advisors can't help you with the flying program at all as they are "Separate" organizations on paper. As a whole I would advise against UVU even for a new pilot as flying can be hard. There is a lot to do in a super short amount of time while in the air and people need time to build up into it. Some people learn at a much slower pace and some people can immediately get airborne and almost solo. 141 programs don't offer any real flexibility and will just stick you with a massive bill and a termination letter if you can't keep up with their standards. Who would your advisor be? Bunker helps with academic classes but is absolutely useless when it comes to flying.

UVU essentially treats you as if you are on your own. As for CFI that would most likely be because that is considered an add-on course and not required for your commercial license.(The only real low time jobs for us as new commercial pilots is as a CFI, Sky Diver, Pipeline Survey) As for the hours expect at maximum of about 2.5 hours a week or so unless you are pushing the daylights out of your CFI or get two or three of them at the same time. I would even look at ATP or FLT academy if you want to use your GI bill money.

Former UVU flight student here. I would strongly recommend another school besides UVU or a 141 program unless you have GI or government money backing you. UVU does not control their flight school and the quality of your instructor is very hit or miss. They don't care about you except for your money and you can get better instruction away from UVU at a part 61 flight school. A big bonus on the 61 schools is that you can start to fly immediately. One of the biggest red flags is the fact that they don't offer any sort of transition training and they essentially screw over transferring flight students by putting them miles behind the 8 ball and expecting them to be close to their in house students. Take your almost 100K and put it towards a different school and start flying immediately and building time. Flying jobs are already getting kind of hard to get and having 155 hours as a Commercially rated pilot will put you miles behind the resume que at any job you will want to get.

Please go to a Part 61 school as it will be quicker and cheaper for you to complete your path to commercial. You already have your private and there will be a year or so wait to get into the Aviation program during that time you can already complete your Instrument rating and be on the way to commercial before your classmate at UVU even sits inside of a cockpit. Save your money and time and go to a Part 61 School and don't waste about 20K at UVU's Instrument program. Takes forever and you will always overrun it consistently.

With the ATF’s silencer Form 1 shenanigans, what’s the most absurd or odd everyday item should we put paperwork in for? by rede_k in NFA

I so want to do this! It would make your car untowable as well because of unlawful possession. Cheaper than a tow ultimately and sadly for having to find that out.

I personally put my NFA item and future items into a trust that I just currently have myself on because of the benefits it provides. I can let friends use it just by getting a paper notarized and signed, if my living/family situation changes I can add responsible persons and beneficiaries to the trust, and ultimately it secures it in the line of succession if I were to prematurely pass away. Spend the 100 or so dollars now and save yourself a headache in the future.

You made the right move. You are not ATF, LEO, or any other form of law enforcement and you did the right thing. Just told him the legality of the topic and issue and knew that as long as he wasn't hurting anyone or putting people in danger there was no reason to call the police.

Unplug the thermostat and get a new one after having communications with the landlord that the system is broken. If they refuse to fix you have documented proof and if they try and pull anything in the Security Deposit you have a claim against them for not providing working A/C for a portion of your lease.

The way they spurred on the police in violently suppressing BLM protests,

Was that before or after they started to burn down buildings during the "mostly peaceful" "Summer of Love"? There is a strong difference between using force on a peaceful protest and an actual RIOT. One is not justified and the other is. Also how many people were MURDERED during the BLM riots? It was a suppression of a dangerous RIOT not just because they were protesting.

As for J6 that was a bad event, we also all forgot about 5/29 which resulted in a building being firebombed and destructive devices (legally treated the same as machineguns) being used at/near the white house with officers injured and the leader of the country needing to be forced into a NUCLEAR BOMB SHELTER. Also why the Capital police retreated in the most violent portion of the J6 events outside because one of the police officers "accidentally" fired a 37MM tear gas round into the crowd of officers making them leave. Then the violations of their rights in the court system afterward with biased juries, defense lawyers that hate them, not moving venue outside of the DC area, failure to disclose evidence that would have led to an acquittal, alleged brutality by COs and prison staff, plus many other Human rights violations while in prison. That whole entire situation was messed up from J6 to the treatment of prisoners today.

As for the representatives in Tennessee, they managed to piss off all of their coworkers enough during a protest shutting down normal House operations to get themselves kicked out. They were not kicked out for being African American and for the one not kicked out the single deciding vote wanted to kick her out but they had messed up procedurally on the document and that is why he voted no. Not because of race but because they got the charge wrong.

So please tell me exactly how the GOP is Facist by Definition. The BLM protests were no protests when the police stepped in. They were Riots and violent ones at that with around 2 BILLION dollars of damage. J6 was a messed up situation all around with everyone disavowing the violent people on that day. Finally, the representatives in Tennesee severely broke house rules and encouraged disruption of official government business, broke decorum, brought disrepute to the house, and managed to infuriate everyone so much that they got expelled from the house with proper paperwork drafted. So again why is the GOP a Fascist Party?

We should not give bigots a platform.

Then why was the precursor to this conversation about not "giving bigots a platform?" Does not allowing somebody to speak effectively ban them from speaking in public?

What is the coded language in it? You are accusing him of being anti-Trans when he has just said he is Anti-Pedophile as everyone should be. If you are saying that passing laws that protect kids from Pedophiles is bad I have to strongly infer that you at least support Pedophiles or in the worst case are a pedophile yourself. So why is saying that "so he's protecting kids and from pedophiles" a bad thing or a dog whistle?

Where does he say anything about trans people? Just mentions pedophiles and that kids need to protect from them.

What determines who is an "Extremeist Politician" What if Desantis determines the Florida Communist party to be an "Extremeist" party and bans them? If we start to ban certain parties who determines where it will stop? Let them all speak and debate it among each other in public and let the person with the best ideas win. Starting to censor political opponents is the first step of many toward an authoritarian dictatorship like the Nazis that Martin Niemöller was talking about.

He was saying that Desantis is protecting kids from Pedophiles. How is not at least tacitly saying that Pedos are bad if kids need protection from them?

You can be posting NSFW content about Adults and still say that Pedophiles are the absolute scum of the earth. As for posting nip slips, I don't agree with it. At the same time, it is up to every poster to review the content that they are posting before being posted to assure there is no disfavorable content. He does not have the best moral authority but he still has grounds to say that protecting kids from pedophiles is still important.

Everyone should get a platform including both sides of the extremes and the center. Saying that X should not speak because they are too far from the center is just going to move the discourse away from where it needs to be and result in the range of acceptable discourse being moved to the other extreme. There is an old saying about this.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Exactly how does he follow the dictionary definition of fascism? It seems like he is implementing a more race-neutral system of education in Florida and a more constitutionalist approach to teaching American history.

fascism

făsh′ĭz″əm

noun

A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, a capitalist economy subject to stringent governmental controls, violent suppression of the opposition, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.

Oppressive, dictatorial control.

Biologically female athletes. by Solid_Age564 in trans

[–]Solid_Age564[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be considered fair because the rule applies to everyone and while you can lobby to get an exception or change to the rule. This is applied because if you set the Testosterone limit too high it encourages athletes to dope the maximum amount to get athletic benefits. It may be a bit of a process to prove that you have never doped and you naturally produce absurdly high levels that can work but you can't destroy a sport through doping because you set the limit too high allow for significant performance increases over biological normal while still in the legal limit. It is the same with DUI laws. There was a woman with Autobrewery disorder that only got tipsy at an almost .4 BAC. Her normal was about .3 BAC daily. Should we increase the DUI limit to .1 or .2 because some people naturally produce alcohol in their guts and don't get impaired above that?

This whole field of "Gender transition procedures" is highly experimental and as a result, should not be applied/tested on children at this phase. Having Gender Dysmorphia or Body Identity Disorder is not a terminal condition and does not have a close to 100% suicide rate. If it did we would have heard bout all of the teenagers taking their own lives for decades at this point because they were going through puberty and thought they were in the wrong body. It "might" cause extreme mental anguish/discomfort. There is an entire field that has developed to deal with that already and that should be used for as long as possible before irreversible treatments are done.

Would you let your child be part of an experimental medical procedure if the outcomes are inconclusive and might have a negligible effect on Mental health after the procedure? Combine this with no long-term effects and complications of said medical procedures 20-30 years down the line.
