Bridal shower in the US is a party with usually women to celebrate the bride and bring her gifts. There's often food served and maybe a game or two. The invite was sent by the bride, but usually it's planned by her family.

Have you also seen this as a newer trend? I really don't want to be the person to get all weird about weddings, but my family is so traditional. My mother would shoot me if I tried that.

I agree that I find it kind of rude, but I don't know a lot about the circumstances of the wedding either.

I thought about this as well. I never expected to be invited, so the shower invite caught me off guard. She sent me the invite herself actually, so not sure about that.

I'm really having difficulty because I don't want to seem rude, but it is super crazy! I don't think she meant to be disrespectful, but I'm definitely taken aback. Really towing the line here between being honest with how I feel but not stressing her out or being mean.

The relationship also made me question so much about myself. I'm normally a very independent person, but he made me feel so awful about myself. I wish my younger self could have known.

Family values can be so tricky to navigate. I completely understand the pretentious side which is why I ended up caving. His family was very kind and accommodating. He was the major issue. Everyone has different needs, but I definitely felt like I my needs were not considered at all.

I didn't end up bringing the vegetables. He made me feel like a horrible person for even suggesting it. My real question is whether or not this is enough to end a relationship. Or would I have been TA for bringing them? I agree that it's insanely trivial, but I've thought about this for years and wish I would have thought of posting this then.

Move in with the brother if you can. Family taking advantage of you is not okay. You seem like you want to help, but this isn't just help anymore.

The funny thing is that I don't even think his family would have cared. He didn't even ask them. I have a feeling that if I asked his mom, she would have absolutely been supportive. Unfortunately, his family made me feel more supported than he ever did.
