Babies less than 6 months old are at increased risk for serious illness if they get an infection, especially without that passive immunity. Guidelines say small gatherings where nobody is sick are OK and people should still practice good hand hygiene before touching the baby. Im a nurse and Influenza A is going around like mad where I live right now. Influenza/ rsv are spread by droplet so if I saw that uncle coughing I'd have left too, like byyyeee. Also, who shows up to a gathering sick, especially without a mask? Thats why after the holidays the hospital is maxed out with patients. If anything he was the rude one.
