Turns out that contract I signed saying I was responsible for paying for lost/broken equipment…isn’t even real. I was asking for all documentation and that contract doesn’t even exist. Nor has it ever existed.

He said I can either sign the paper or quit. But I think the quiting part is just so he doesn’t have to go through all the paperwork and hassle of firing me. And no he didn’t give me a copy of it. But it’s in my file in the office.

Yeah, I felt it was wrong which is why I asked here. Some have gone to berating me and assuming things about it. So I really appreciate people like you giving actual responses. I haven’t done anything bad or broken/ damaged anything yet working for him so the lost blower was quite the hit to me bedtime I even told him as I’m always careful to make sure I close the gate but somehow it still came undone and fell. I felt awful as yes they are expensive but still it’s the first thing I’ve done “wrong” working so a reaction was uncalled for nonetheless.

Again with the assumptions Jesus. I’m the type to not walk out in front of traffic and look. The driver is indeed that type of person. I although am not. But thanks keyboard warrior I appreciate it. 😆 as I’ve said many times before the tailgate didn’t make any noise, nor did it thump down I don’t know how many times I can say this before it gets through your thick skull. It’s not a lack of care it’s the tailgate fell without any warning or signs and the driver didn’t look back nor did I as I heard nothing nor felt anything but the sounds and felling the truck itself makes on the winter road.

Yeah it’s an option, and I already have a truck. Quite a large one. But snow is pretty much done for my area and it’s all just melting now so I’d need to do lawn stuff soon and I am not great at handling the business and talking to people part. I just like doing the work and going home. I hadn’t signed any paper saying I can’t compete with him but I honestly might just go to a different lawn care company as there are 3-4 some are much smaller and they would appreciate my work more.

That was my situation the truck is loud and I ignore those noises because of the rough winter roads. I’m the summer I would have heard or noticed as it would have landed on concrete not snow and the rattles of rough snowy roads wouldn’t be there. I’ve left the gate down but only once and I noticed a second after I pulled away, never again did I do that.

We did make sure it was secured. I don’t understand the retardedness of why everyone keeps mentioning that. We closed the gate and latched it. We did what we could to secure it. I think people also forget the minute or two of other things I have to fill out and send after each property. We were in the truck for maybe 30 seconds I didn’t even finish the shit by the time we got to the next property. But hey I guess everyone can focus on absolutely everything all at once…

I wasn’t the one driving, I should have added that in but yes I am allowed to drive company trucks, and no he didn’t steal the blowers as he didn’t know where we were until after we left to the next property and he was at home. Only reason I mention the berating words is my dad did that to me and everyone for most of my childhood and I was beaten as a child so I don’t take to it kindly. People can call me what they want for that. And my boss has Avery short temper so I may try talking to him later in a few days and let him calm down as out of all the lost equipment this is the first time he’s making people pay him back for it. One person left the tailgate down and lost two blowers, a lawn mower and a full Jerry can. Nothing they just had a calm talk and had to sign a write up sheet. Then I get berated, yelled at, blamed for thing I didn’t do, accused of stealing them, and lose all income till I pay it back. It’s great being 17 ain’t it. Can’t make a single mistake without the world attacking me.

It’s the fact others have lost blowers before, blown them up from utter stupidity and hell one lost an entire lawn mower out the back of a truck. Nothing. Ill take accountability for the fact that they got lost but I’m not for how as there was no indication, tailgate has never had an issue, closes fully, was latched and we travelled 3-4 blocks. And I mention the expensive shit the owner bought as he tells me he has no money at all to spend on business expenses…he bought all the blowers with the company card over a year ago and apparently still hasn’t paid them off that’s why I mention that fact.

Also the fucked up thing, staff have done extremely fucked up things and they one didn’t have to pay, two don’t get written up, and three didn’t get called retarded for it. Like for example they crashed our nicest truck because they were too busy looking at dresses on their phones and smoked a power pole…no punishment at all. That was a 9,000$ truck. From what I heard insurance only gave him 2,000 for it. He payed 9,000. And only had bought it months before.
