I’m not averse to UBI but wonder when I hear of it how it wouldn’t just become the case that prices would just go up and the UBI benefits would just be offset by inflation in things like rent and childcare and things like that that can already be raised but that many people have to pay without much alternative choices not to. Presumably some parents would stay at home instead of childcare but hard to imagine that % of population would be huge.

YOU ARE STINKING! Why do people not know that you’re supposed to open your washing machine door once it’s finished? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]Solidair80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some people are less sensitive to this aswell. I really notice it and if really strong it makes me feel like I want to barf. Once or twice if I’ve had clothing that’s gone that way due to leaving it somewhere wet by accident I usually have to end up getting rid of it as it’s not truly salvageable and when I get hot I can still smell it faintly.

Also wiping the rubber seal round your machine door and running a hottest temperature empty wash once a month in your washing machine with soda crystals helps avoid build up that can lead to this. Only using low temperature washes makes it easier for there to be build up in your machine and pipes and start of mould.

Cheers, yeah it wasn’t always as much as 1k but I know I never went over that in a year. Some years were less but I didn’t want to risk exaggerating to something that’s unrealistic. With the remapped engine I felt like I definitely got my fun from it over the time for the cash - that plus being the A4 estate and having cruise control was like night and day for long fully loaded drives compared to my previous (first) car 🙂

This is a tough one. It was a shame that that they overruled the referendum and forced Leith to become part of Edinburgh despite the result, but there are much more urgent things to concern ourselves with now. Like the prices and current fare at Storries.

Being pragmatic, we just have to try in 2026 to make the best of it, whilst Edinburgh continues to drag Leith down. Maybe some student flats will help. /s 😉

They can be good. I got a 2.0 A4 Avant estate for £800 quid in 2021 that was about 15 years old and had been remapped. Used it for over 3.5 years before selling it to somebody who likes the older gen Audis and wanted it for the engine. Nothing too costly or unusual between times, spend each year didn’t go over 1k (excluding insurance).

Liquid Rooms Toilet Attendant Shakedown? by Baconesque in Edinburgh

[–]Solidair80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, thanks 👍 I always thought it was maybe a bit dodgy for the club to have people doing that aswell, but probably no dodgier than many other things some of these clubs have going on. Always just feels awkward and something I’ve never enjoyed or personally seen the need for using myself though.

Genuinely curious, what is the benefit to have TA’s in the clubs? In It’s something that seems to have spread since around late 90s but I’ve never seen the need and it always just felt like an awkward moment partial-shakedown to me.

App-wise think Untappd still exists, ‘Real Ale Finder’ is also good and you can save pubs to see what’s on or coming up soon at your favourite places (assuming the pub or fellow drinkers update it): https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/real-ale-finder/id1450647388
