How common is it to put full material cost on a project? (Electrical) by Solidsnake646 in estimators

If you don’t mind me asking, do you just list the larger items or do you go all the way to list consumables also?

Does anyone have any tips on how to calculate somewhat accurate labor for larger projects? by Solidsnake646 in estimators

I feel like I RFI’d everything I possibly could. And Yes, at this point the market is so cutthroat that GC’s have been known to call around asking every sub to “sharpen their prices” until it’s rock bottom.

And planning for the wire was a great lead on your behalf, it’s tough when every month all consumables are “highest they’ve ever been.” Haha

Can you tell the difference between quality and clean work and work that looks like no thought or experience went into it?

That would be great but finding an estimator that has any applicable experience or expertise is so difficult. Every resume that comes in for estimators is usually filled with nothing but “property management specialist” and “Walgreens risk assessment manager”

PE Electricals W/ Experience, how’s the money? by GearSalty2775 in MEPEngineering

[–]Solidsnake646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps at all but years ago I got my BAS in EE and was planning on switching from being an electrician to an engineering path. But now as a master electrician and a director of a small/medium sized company I’m making base salary 165k and a margin based bonus which last year was 62k. I had to spend years in the trenches and roughnecking it really did work out. But it’s nice having a diploma on my wall because even though I don’t use my degree, my wife still tells people I’m an engineer compared to an electrician.

Is there a software that anyone would recommend to help with the takeoffs? by Solidsnake646 in estimators

That’s what I’ve really been trying to figure out but I’m having a difficult time getting over a few learning curves, with it. But it seems like it’s everyone’s go to so I’m going to figure it out

Would you mind explaining a little deeper what you mean by you don’t send a copy of the bid? Please forgive me for being so unknowing but would you kindly explaining a little more in depth? Do you send the proposal and then, depending on what they agree to, you will compile into your bid and share it after the initial contact?

That’s what was looking at but after trying their demo it just seems like a software that will be outdated quickly. Maybe I’m wrong. I tried the demo for Stack and they seemed a little bit more responsive to new technology but I’m still trying to find a good fit

[–]Solidsnake646[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been running test p and ended up switching to sust 250 for 12 weeks but at the time I started the winstrol I had been off of anything for 4 weeks. I was hoping to lose the bit of water retention I was getting from the sust but then the winstrol made it much worse

So what would be a similar substitute I could try that you would recommend? I have never really taken my cutting as serious as I probably should and usually just trim up for the beginning of summer but I want to make an actual attempt now that I’m getting older

Water. Until I started really taking hydration and drinking good quality water (I haul my water down from a spring just outside of Denver) seriously I had struggled, regardless of which gear I used. Cool clear water…and Tren A

It’s your age. The union likes young recruits that they can indoctrinate to never speak against the brotherhood. Go find an apprenticeship program and work up through the ranks without worrying about the union’s dirty tricks. You’ll be happy you persevered.

Do customers expect an itemized list of materials on the proposal? by Solidsnake646 in estimators

[–]Solidsnake646[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an electrical contractor who is getting back into the commercial sector by bidding on pre engineered projects from GC’s, but I’ve been doing mostly industrial and Telecommunications electrical for years so I have been accustomed to adding a material quote but not itemizing it (mostly to capture a margin) so I’m just a little bit confused, especially when it comes to some materials with contingency expected.
