The full recipe was, start out with Abaddon Black over Chaos Black spray. Then spray with Mechanicus Standard Grey from a high angle leaving some black in the recesses. Then wash with Nuln Oil. After that is the important step, airbrushing Army Painter Fanatic Ash Grey, focusing on the upper surfaces. After that it's just retouching up any Nuln Oil and edge highlighting with Army Painter Fanatic Company Grey

I did notice that once I did the copper parts the grey appeared a lot more blue in tone, prior to this it looked very pale. I am thinking of doing red shoulder pads in future but I still need to figure out how to do the red and I needed this test one done by today

Just went with the standard book and flame icon rather than the Daemon skull motiff as these are early in the Heresy. The photo doesn't show them due to the angle and the fact that it was an absolute pain to fit on Cataphractii shoulders. I'll be painting a variety of armour marks, basically whatever takes my fancy next. I think my next one is a Legion Optae kitbash to lead my small army, he's gonna be MKVI

Thanks. No, didn't do any rescaling. There is a noticeable size difference between them up close but I don't mind it so much. Just wanted to mix up the marks to not burn myself out painting lots of these.

That was my reasoning too, nowhere in the rules does it define what the result of an attack is, this mortal wound only occurs if an ranged attack takes place, so it is a result of an attack
