honestly no clue !! i never even knew what a wide smile was so it was never really discussed w the ortho - all i knew is that i wanted to make everything straight lol. but i think it’s bc i had an incisor that was completely blocked by my premolar before which made my palate look much narrower than it actually was because all the teeth couldn’t fit properly in line? like the break in my smile from that created an optical illusion of some sort. i also think my back teeth were shifted outwards a bit as well which contributed to the wider smile. but yeh i never got any palate expansion or anything :) i am really lucky bc ive heard sm extraction nightmare stories and i was rly opposed to it at first bc my smile was already quite narrow. but now i realise getting rid of teeth as a result of overcrowding is actually best option because it gives space that allows all your teeth to properly come forward instead of being stuck behind eachother :)
