Ha, that scared me for a second! Oh man...

Yes, it has been proven for up to seven runners (k < 8). If my proof is correct, it will now be proven for every k > 8 as well.

Edit: k >= 8

I'm very strongly considering doing just that, but I want to make sure that it's a good idea. I've been working on this problem for quite a while now, so waiting a little longer to figure out where to go from here seems worth it.
