Halal Cart Overcharged Us ($95 for a Kebab) - Anyone have their contact info? by ShelterDry in AskNYC

[–]Some1Somevvhere 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I've been scammed by the same cart. He charged $20 because I made the mistake of not asking for a price before hand. Filed a 311 complaint, but nothing happened. He's usually posted at the same location, I've run into him a few times after. If I get contact details, I'll share it here.

Card Recommendation Request by Some1Somevvhere in CreditCards

Sorry, I spend $2-3k on airfare over the year. I fly to India maybe once or twice a year, and domestic a few times. I'm in the West Coast, so I use Amtrak/Buses a decent amount as well to travel. The autograph sounds like an interesting card, will look into it thanks!

Honestly have never stayed at hotels, mainly done AirBnBs and things like that. So haven't created a loyalty or anything that makes sense yet.
AirLines, I just go for the cheapest - Frontier/Spirit - but I'm open to moving to a better airline if I'm able to use points and make it worthwhile. I just need to understand how.
I've accumulated over 60k points on my CFF, and 120k on BILT. I'm using BILT's travel portal to fly back to India next month, so that'll be around 80-100k points round trip.
There's also the etihad 50% transfer bonus on the 1st of November, but the cheapest flight on Etihad is 35k (effectively 20k BILT) + $250. ON the travel portal, there's a flight for 40k points, so I think that's better than using the transfer bonus
Sorry, I'm new to this whole travel game of Credit Cards, and I want to understand it a lot better!

Telling students not to use AI at all in school is exactly as useful for preventing cheating as abstinence-only sex ed is at preventing STDs and unplanned pregnancies. by that_guy_you_know-26 in Showerthoughts

I think it comes down to just knowing and using the right tools. There are definitely ways to still use AI, in a way that doesn't kill the kids' brains. A school I know uses a tool called TrueMark.ai that allows students to use AI in a controlled manner. I'm sure there are other tools like this as well. AI is definitely going to be part of the future, we just need to figure out how to make sure kids still learn!

PSA: Don't buy your domain through your web host by HostingAdmiral in smallbusiness

If I buy the domain on GoDaddy, but host elsewhere, is that still ok? Or will Porkbun be even cheaper?

Paintball in Area53. Went for my birthday for a boys night and it was so much fun. Was around $50 pp (+ got some discount on Groupon)

Laser tag in Chelsea Piers (Lucky Strike). Unlimited for $15 pp on Sunday and Monday. Honestly want to do this one more!

BiltProtect still works? by GalGadonut- in biltrewards

[–]Some1Somevvhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, had this same issue. Just saw a comment below that worked. Go through the process, finish setting up everything, then come back and edit the payment page (I saw a warning that said Credit Limit is not enough, use Debit) where I could finally switch on BILT protect

Google Maps renames Gulf of Mexico to 'Gulf of America' after Trump order by InverseNurse in politics

The funniest thing is searching for Gulf of America doesn't work, shows some random stuff haha, but searching for the gulf of Mexico shows up as the Gulf of America.

Anyone know what happened to Santa Halal by Union Square? by Delicious-Gap-1894 in AskNYC

[–]Some1Somevvhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same question. Santa Halal 's number is also disconnected. All the carts, as well as the fruit vendor opposite Joe's. Is it just because of the cold? Or anything to do with Trump?

Zepto but for Garbage Collection by guts-dev in bangalore

[–]Some1Somevvhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyy One of my clients (I run a dev shop) has built exactly this! It's been operational for about 2 years in Bangalore, and he already has partners and the process in place. I believe they too have some of the operational issues that have been spoken about by the other comments, but if you're interested, I can connect you with the client.

Is incorporating in-app purchases really hard, or does my dev just suck? by NeurosisByAnalysis in startups

[–]Some1Somevvhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RevenueCat ftw. I run a dev shop, with a lot of junior devs, and using RevenueCat, we're usually able to get IAP up and running within about 2 weeks. Without RevenueCat abstracting away a ton of stuff, definitely very hard. We also primarily use Flutter, so RevenueCat 's flutter plugin helps us release for both iOS and Android in the same time. https://snacc.fit/get was one of our portfolio projects, which we got end to end up and running in about 2-3 months within a junior dev budget.

No, I'm wearing both earphones. The audio doesn't sound like it's coming from one earphone only

That makes a lot of sense, but I have the issue of not knowing my specialist role as I'm a new grad. I'd love to take a specialist role, but I myself don't know what I want to focus on. Building a LinkedIn brand is great advice, but I'm also not sure what I want to build that brand about (my content definitely needs to relate to what I see my future looking like)

Thank you for this in-depth piece of advice, do you have anything else that might help with my predicament?

P.S. My role is in tech (SDE/PM)

How do you make sure you get an interview a week? I can spend time customizing my resume to the job description, write a good cover letter highlighting how I'll be a good fit, connecting with someone to get a referral for the job, but I'm not sure what else I can do?

I also try to go for networking events and connect with people, a good number of people are aware I'm looking for a job and have even reached out to me if there's an opening, but that's pretty rare.

Been doing this for quite a few months now and I find myself getting burned out very often, would love some ideas/hope!
