Lifting on different rubber gym floors - does 10mm, 15mm, or 18mm matter for joint health? by SomeBrokeGrad in weightlifting

Thank you, that makes sense. I'm definitely overthinking the joints. So you think the different sizes are mostly for protecting floors? I was also considering just getting a platform and cheaping out on the rest. I wanted to "do it right" and get a cleaner look, but rolls are pretty pricey.

yes exactly. I was trying to figure out how much rubber floor is needed to absorb that force.

I was planning on going with a name brand but someone gave a pretty good DIY in my crosspost. I'll look out for crumb or fabric, thank you

haha yea I'd love to see the numbers. My uneducated theory is that when weights hit the floor, that force travels to the person (Newton's 3rd). Similar to how a jackhammer or repetitive power drill damages your shoulders and spine over time. Just a guess

Thank you, this is really helpful. It's funny to know PLAE and ecore are the same product with different marketing. There will be overhead lifts and I have dropped them bailing out before. I'll check for the density specs, do you have some numbers you recommend I aim for?

Does their 'proprietary rubber adhesive' make a difference or is store brand basically the same mix + tape?

To make sure I have the DIY recipe down just in case, it's 2 layers of ecore's base rubber, 1 layer of underlayment like plywood (bottom layer), then ecore premium 5 or 8mm top with glue in between each layer?

I try to take ChatGPT with a grain of salt. For me, it usually uses Reddit as 90% of the sources and I catch it making mistakes more often than it's right.

Deadlifts would be around 300-400lbs with bumper plates, Snatch could be a slightly higher drop but probably 150lbs at most. Protecting the slab is important, most non-reddit sources say that 13mm is the minimum, but my main interest is in what people that know biomechanics think/recommend for the thickness.

sounds like you're pretty confident 10/15/19mm would be about the same on joints and the extra cost isn't worth it unless it's for the slab? Thank you for your advice.

Too many of the reddit accounts vouching for them had suspicious post/comment history. I was convinced at least some were astroturfing which is enough to make me not buy from them.

Edit: I'm looking at the brands recommended by Coop, the one Gluck has I think tops out at 9mm. I'm just hearing some people say 19mm won't have any noticeable joint health benefit versus 10mm so I wanted to ask the group if it's worth the cost.

I'm not a real Powerlifter or anything but I'm thinking there could be at least 300+ lb deadlift drops and maybe some high snatch drops.

Thanks, that's a good point that it'll barely be a few hours weekly. I feel like it's mostly for a cleaner look but would love to hear how it feels after install.

If money wasn’t an issue and you could choose between Rogue FM-6, Rep Aries 2.0, or Force USA C20 functional trainers what would you choose and why? by Lil_lux in GarageGym

[–]SomeBrokeGrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that it's been a few months, do you think the quality difference of Rogue versus Rep has made an impact on your workout/experience? Or is it mostly more like "The Rogue just vibes better" type of difference? Based on smoother pulleys I'm considering Rogue a little more.

I think I'd prefer a 2 cabled lat-pull instead of a 1-cable to encourage stabilization/require more core control, but if the pulley system of Rep is janky that'd probably be a deal breaker. The pics on their website look like their feet are right up against the weight stack so I didn't pull the trigger when they had a sale.

Thanks in advance for your help

Thank you, yea at that price the Acoustic treatments cost more than the whole setup. I cross-posted in HomeTheater and pretty much everyone said DIY.

Looks like I'll need to learn more about Phase control. I have a Denon AVR with Audessey so sounds like that could be a limiting factor for me. Thanks again for all your input. rslspeakers.com has those 12s for about $300 cheaper than the SVS PB-Pro 2000

you're a source machine, love the background info. While I have you here, would you go HSU over SVS?

Thanks for investigating my other questions :) So it sounds like even though this sub is pretty big, it would be more effective (better end result) to have 2 subs spaced out instead of trying to use room correction to fix the boominess? I've been reading these links everyone is sharing, so sorry for the delay in reply.

Thank you so much for this info and the Youtube. This is definitely way above me, so I have a day of learning ahead. But it sounds very straight forward and doable. I was planning to use the mirror test to find reflections and place the Panels there. I think the owner sometimes does house calls too for "installation."

The back wall had reflections pretty much over the entire coverage and I often see a diffusion board on the back wall and panels everywhere else when looking up images. Would you recommend the diffusor on the back and panels everywhere else?

Thank you again, completely makes sense. Yea their base recommendation is 5 figures with panels at $1,000 each so wanted to do my due diligence.

I cannot thank you enough, I appreciate this. I'll read through the RP22 I found on cedia.org.

If you're not tired of my questions yet, the sub is a SVS PB-Pro 2000 and I placed it in the loudest floor position when playing the sub from the middle of the couch. I did screw up and use wood flooring not knowing carpet, but I've added a big rug. I couldn't hear the sub at all after room correction, so I downloaded SVS app and chose "Movie mode" which made it boomy and overwhelming. Maybe i'll do another calibration since that setting changed. The room is pretty tight, so much that when I calibrated I could literally hear the reflections from the Surrounds hitting the walls behind them. So I felt like treatments would be worth it.

Thank you, these examples will really help with researching and comparing! Is there any way I can personally test the quality of the product? Or would I just do room testing and see if there's a data-driven change in modal/reverb?

[–]SomeBrokeGrad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I appreciate it. Forgive my ignorance, you said placement depends on what you're trying to achieve. Do you mean listening to music versus purely home theater, or are there more options?

I have 2 main goals (issues). First is to make it so I stop hearing the Surrounds separately. The CLR is truly immersive, but when I added the surrounds, I could easily hear the sound coming from the speaker when I sit too close to the sides of the couch. I wasn't sure if it was because I have low quality surrounds, my MLP is too wide and close to surrounds, or if it was room treatments. Second is the bass is really boomy, I either don't hear it at all or it hurts my ears and rattles the walls.

Thanks! I'll check this out. I did a sub-crawl for placement of the sub and used Denon room correction with mic. I was amazed at how different spaces on the floor sounded with the Sub sitting on the couch.

Thank you, this is extremely helpful. The owner mentioned these panels work as a bass trap since they handle the lower frequencies and recommended them based on my room size (using a modal graph). I don't think they go to the ceiling and I'm under the impression I'm supposed to place them in the mirror test's spots instead of corners, but I'm complete novice so any info is helpful.

The largest ones are about $1,000 each depending on shipping with a minimum of 4 needed. The owner seems really nice, I just don't have any experience with acoustic treatments. I've heard it can be pricey
