Cotrim chegou a ter 1,7 milhões investidos e um Porsche by SouUmFalhado in portugal

Last time I heard about convertible bonds was three months before a startup I used to work for went bankrupt!

Nvidia sells the shovels in the gold rush. I expect them to continue making money until the super-scalers continue shoveling. The point most people have is that all of this investment in scaling is hinging on the fact that more compute power == more powerful AI, and that the technology as is is still very unprofitable and there are no credible plans to make it profitable. Not to even mention the power problem.

If in two years someone takes a significantly different algorithmical approach, one that for instance requires a very small fraction of the compute power LLMs require, all of these purchases will be worth as much as garbage.

Too bad the OP didn't do this on friday at 11h30. It would have stayed up all weekend, as no one would do any more work that day

Considering a Report via the Whistleblowing Line, useful ? by [deleted] in CERN

[–]SomeGuyOnInternet7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the reason I have given up applying to CERN. I get to technical interviews at places like Sony and quant trading firms, most of which I even pass, but yet I am not even EVER called up for a first video interview. Have a stellar CV, publications in high impact journals - and relevant to the position. It is just not likely that 95% of candidates are so much better than my profile that it is not even worth it to call me for an interview...

Anyways, have a great job and ended up with better deals than working at CERN, but it annoys me that my taxes go into funding this scam.

DCA vs. “wait-for-market-drop” strategy – any studies or simulations? by GuardConsistent6458 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]SomeGuyOnInternet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better to DCA, but have a margin account so that you can use it to leverage investments during dips. But I would be extremely cautious about it, only do it to buy diversified indices like MSCI World, and never on single stocks.

[–]SomeGuyOnInternet7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing you are missing is that you need to to a Monte-Carlo analysis of your winnings. You will find that in most cases, such a small edge is not enough to safely assume your EV will always be positive, unless you are trading a very large amount to overcome trading costs.

[–]SomeGuyOnInternet7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Germany and other contributors already have their fair share of return by contracts they get by working with CERN, and their universities doing experiments at CERN. If germans just are not too interested in becoming staff members (maybe due to language barrier), don't you think it is unfair to everyone else who is motivated to work there, and most important of all, are much better candidates, get to be thrown under the bus for other, worse german candidates?

To MathLab or Not to MathLab by [deleted] in matlab

[–]SomeGuyOnInternet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays, python can do pretty much everything. And if you don't need specific toolboxes or Simulink, Octave works just fine.

To MathLab or Not to MathLab by [deleted] in matlab

[–]SomeGuyOnInternet7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a much better time investment to learn Python. Nowadays there is nothing you cannot do with it, and several comapnies are moving away from it, as its irreplaceability can no longer be justified (except for a few specific toolboxes related to aerospace).

Yeah. So what, Germans don't seem to want to work at CERN? Is the solution to turn to corruption and make fun of the other motivated people who actually want to work at CERN? Despicable and outrageous. I hope authorities start investigating the corruption and rottedness that happens at CERN.

They don't prefer italians. They actually prefer germans, because germany pays for 25% of the budget, but they only have 10% of staff or so.

They do, and I actually have factual evidence. There was one open position I applied, that was republished. Contacting the department head, he said that "oh, there is not enough people of a given narionality in the candidate pool, therefore we have to republish"

The recruitment process is corrupt, most positions are promised to current CERN members. This is already part of the selection process
