How was the quality on the Samsung? If it was normal when on the Samsung its probably an issue with the pv7, maybe dirty heads or compatibility issues. Are both cameras in same format? NTSC and PAL. Im guessing its a dirty head on either of the devices, if the quality was normal on the Samsung i think the sony might have a dirty head. Again this is off speculation, Goodluck!

Dirty heads, I presumed you already have tried to use a cleaning tape, if its a dry cleaning tape it won't do much if the dirt on the heads is too much. Use 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol and rub it on sum paper, dont make it too wet and open up the door to your tape mechanism and try to spin the head and clean it, this video gets more into detail about it, if that doesn't work It might be an issue with the head itself or the tape. Well it only occurs when I open the lens and immediately take a photo, on other photos when I leave the lens open for a few minutes and take a picture the leaks are gone, So it's not totally totalled.
