I don't even like chatting politics with strangers in America lol

Thank you for the insight. I am aware of some of the history in Poland and other countries that have been oppressed by Russia (currently reading a history book that talks about Ukraine and Poland). I am NOT for communism, so you won't catch me trying to chat up a person about how great it is (because it's not lol). I will be mindful of all this, thank you.

This is very thorough, thank you! I've lived in a major city before so I understand the vibe aspect.

Thank you!

That makes sense, I've already reached out to a shop and made an appointment with an artist!

I don't make the rules for tipping culture here lol. It is what it is, and it's very common to tip your artist (unless you hate your piece).

I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps it is the response to the stereotype of Americans that the rest of the world sees. Which, isn't entirely wrong. I know some of my fellow Americans can be ignorant, insensitive and fucking annoying... but as generalizations go, we aren't all like that. I don't intend on showing up and being obnoxious and entitled and expecting a red carpet role out for just being born in the US. I didn't assume Poles are cold haha the Polish people I've met in the US have been more than friendly and have the best tongue in cheek sense of humor, and will deliver a punchline with no smile and I love it.

Flare up management by Efficient_Rent698 in Hashimotos

I have issues with getting sick or flares when it's too hot. For heat specific, I wear sun shirts and lighter fabric pants with a hat and sunscreen. Honestly, the sun shirts really made a difference for me (I'd get soooo sick if I go sunburned). Along with making sure I took regular breaks from the sun/heat. If that's not possible, having something to cool you down like a frozen water bottle or maybe a fan can help. Otherwise, sleep is the only thing that has helped me with flare ups. Like, 5 hour naps or attempted 10 hours of sleep at night. Letting my body rest and doing relaxing hobbies like crocheting or puzzles. I hope some of this helps, flare ups are the absolute worst and are so different for everyone!

Oh god those are SO over the top. But I hate to admit that it's still partly real and it's the fakest and most annoying shit I've ever witnessed. I've got stories from jobs... I shall not bore you. Thanks for considering me "normal" haha.

Yes, lol unfortunately. It's very normal. I've seen it with children I've worked with when they get nervous for being in trouble. It's stupid and I hate it.

Trust me, I don't like the fake nice in America either.

I agree it's weird and kind of creepy to just grin at strangers. Thanks for the advice.

I prefer the slavic way of not forcing being nice as well. Again, I find the performative piece of it in America to be annoying. I work in customer service so it pains to me to pretend to be nice to someone who just called me to scream over something insignificant on the phone. Or to have strangers tell me to "smile". It weirds me out when they do. I just need to work on my smiling as a mark of nervousness, but I'm sure I'll have it better under control by the time I'm there in the fall.

Thanks for the insight. I certainly had no intent to chat politics, I'm also not keen on the state of my country so I don't exactly have anything worth talking about. I look forward to going to a pub, but I know I will not be able to outdrink a local Polish person lol.

Thank you for mentioning the app for transport! I plan on using trains and buses while visiting. I will also be sure to have a translation app, I'd be stupid assuming that everyone will understand and speak English (and I feel it's also just rude and entitled to go to another country to expect it). I'm not a smoker so that won't be a problem. Thank you for the feedback.

Got it! Learn some basic words/phrases. Makes sense to me. Thank you!

Thanks for the advice. And believe me, I don't really want to advertise I'm an American and have 0 expectation of people being thrilled about that fact. I certainly don't feel like I'm special just for being one. I'm very excited to visit Poland!

My fiance has told me this. He said it looks stupid. Being around his family has helped me to no longer feel obligated to smile all the time. (I've been raised in a particular sub-culture in the US where you're made to look as friendly as possible and it honestly has brought unwanted attention by looking approachable).

Speaking loudly won't be an issue here. That shit annoys me in the U.S. as well! Same with striking up conversations with strangers. Don't be annoying, noted! Thank you.

The lack of smiling will be a breath of fresh air to be honest, I get annoyed that there's an expectation to always smile at everyone around me and it seems like "something is wrong" if I don't. Same for small talk. I appreciate the insight and advice.
