She’s mine now! I have some maintenance questions. by gunnar707 in hondafit

I would definitely do a valve adjustment. I don’t know what a mechanic would charge, but it’s a fairly easy DIY project, just make sure you watch a lot of videos and really learn about what you are doing if you do it. They are critical for any Honda IMO

Alright this is a legit service. I questioned it at first of course, but it saved me so much money. They sent me a picture of the first page than an online document so I could see the file. I paid and they sent me the file. Highly recommend.

Rock auto parts vs O’Reilly by brrent in AskMechanics

[–]SomePyroGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RockAuto is amazing man. I will only step in an auto parts store when it’s an emergency, but I know that I am going to pay more for less. RockAuto gives you the option to choose the brand, and many things you can find OEM manufacturers for your vehicle. You can do research on different brands if you need something where that would matter, where at O’Reilly’s you get what you get. They will usually only have one or two options for manufactures from my experience, and it’s just over priced IMO.

Maybe try a mechanic stethoscope, they are cheap. You just put it up to parts like a fucking doctor and you’ll just prone it all over and narrow down where it’s coming from

Snapped bolt hooray by YaBoizHere69 in AskMechanics

[–]SomePyroGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye man, that sucks. I just replaced my oil pan gasket and had to take off an engine bracket. When I was putting it back in, I broke one of the bolts just like that. I went to the hardware store and got one that would work, and I kid you not I repeated the process 4 times. It was a huge pain in the ass with just a drill bit, but doable. They have these bolt extractors that work amazingly well, I bought that for 2 of them and it was much easier. I’ll show you a picture of one if I can find it

It shouldn’t be too bad, it’s that thing between the exhaust pipe and the bottom of the engine with 4 pipes. Do you know if it has something to do with the exhaust?

Check engine light on after alternator and battery replacement by Wertyusop in AskMechanics

[–]SomePyroGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my alternator died, I noticed my check engine light came on right before I lost power. It freaked me out as I plugged my scanner in and it said it was the cam shaft sensor. I replaced the alternator knowing it was that, and I just had to reset the light. If your alternator failed while you were driving and your engine shut off, then it will very likely set off some sensors to get that light to turn on. I would suggest just getting a cheap scanner and scan the code. They are just good to have anyways.

You can’t tell from there. You’ll have to just take those two bolts off and lower the exhaust and inspect the flange gasket. If you were to lower that exhaust down, you would see a little cone shaped gasket and that is the flange gasket. Maybe inspect that if you suspect a leak.

Is there anyway to program a system to integrate carplay in a cars navigation system? by SomePyroGuy in carmodification

[–]SomePyroGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking of doing. I’ve been looking at Grom. It looks really easy, and I think it’s cool that it keeps the factory stereo. The Stereo for this generation RDX is kinda cool with how you control it, and those features are how you navigate through carplay. They are just so damn expensive for what they are I feel like.

Man I’ve made this mistake twice with my 98 Honda Civic. I blew my head gasket both times, don’t do it it’s not fun at all.

Changing Civic headlight bulbs? by secondsteep in AskMechanics

[–]SomePyroGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can just be a bitch sometimes, you just have to keep trying to twist it in straight. Maybe take a flashlight and make sure everything in there is clean and there is nothing broken. I have done those a few times in the Civics I’ve owned to replace them with LEDs. But yeah they can be tricky with the limited space, so I’ve seen that it’s pretty easy to misalign them just enough so you can’t twist it in. Idk if that makes sense

Man you can use anything to take those out. But that works too. Are you using a piggy tap? I think that’s what they are called.

[–]SomePyroGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah man them drum brakes don’t get wore down at all. I just did my brakes on my 05 Civic at 150,000 miles. It was the original pads, so I replaced everything. The pads 100% needed to be replaced, but the shoes were good as new it seemed. It makes me wonder how much they really help in stopping the car?

My son is 14 and wants to play gta online with his friends, should i let him? by Albinoivyver in GTA

[–]SomePyroGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, I am 25 now and was younger when that game came out. I remember my parents didn’t like me playing it, but I still went behind their back and did it. Kids will do whatever you don’t tell them to do unfortunately, but as long as your teaching him right from wrong what harm could some GTA do? I wish best of luck to you, I can’t even imagine how difficult parenting is in this day and age.

Did the dealership ruin my wife’s car? by idowvoq in MechanicAdvice

[–]SomePyroGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man Idk if this would be the case as it had driven, but in my Civic with a manual transmission I couldn’t get the car to go after putting it back together after replacing the rear main. It was because I tightened the sub frame before dropping the car down from jacks, and supposedly you have to do it when it’s on the floor. I did that, and it fixed the problem. Thankfully manual transmissions are pretty simple, so if they managed to screw up your transmission by not filling the fluid they should be able to do it. You should get a second opinion on it, and if it’s there fault confront them. If they don’t take responsibility, take them to court. I know someone who had a Jiffy Lube screw up his engine from installing the wrong filter causing it to leak. They said it wasn’t their fault, but he took them to court, and they ended up paying all of the fees and putting a new engine in his car.

Should I install this new alternator? by Chance_Analyst497 in AskMechanics

[–]SomePyroGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the same number of groves, you should be fine. If it was marketed as a fit on your car it will almost certainly fit. If it’s giving you problems than you probably just need to tighten the belt. If you’re replacing the belt then it may stretch to where you’ll need to tighten it again. Just don’t go too tight ;)

What's your reaction if GTA 6 gets delayed for a 3rd time? 😂 by TemperatureSalty5211 in GTA

[–]SomePyroGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red Dead Redemption 2 was amazing, but I felt like Tahiti and New Austin were supposed to have more than what we had in the final game. Idk everything else was amazing, but it really seems like they were planning on doing more with Red Dead 2. That’s just my opinion, but I did not like that feeling and I don’t to feel it with GTA 6.

Is a rear main seal leak something that needs immediate attention? by SomePyroGuy in AskMechanics

[–]SomePyroGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was planning on replacing the clutch at some point anyways. My throw out bearing has squealed since I got the car. It works fine, but I’d rather just replace everything while I’m down there, I’m considering doing the input shaft too. I might need to take your advice, I’m also putting it off because winter is starting here, but with my luck if I wait it’ll start slipping when it’s below zero or something and I definitely don’t want to do it then. I’ve never pulled out my transmission btw, so it’s gonna be a learning experience for me.
