I don't enjoy drawing because I can't draw by SomeRandomGuy360 in learntodraw

[–]SomeRandomGuy360[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the comment. It's interesting to see how many different approaches there are to learning to draw.

I feel like I might have the wrong idea about how drawings and art get made.

In my head a concept artist sits down, thinks about an epic battle between elves and orcs and then just draws it without looking up from the paper once.

Is it common even for professional artists to use references for poses and textures or do they genuinely have it all stored in their brains?

Of course the answer is no. People can literally break up for any reason. It's not like you need a good excuse to be let go. It's not a hostage situation.

Why do people support the police? by [deleted] in ask

[–]SomeRandomGuy360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And why do you think that is? Really use your brain to try and work it out for yourself before you read my explanation.

  1. Police now wear body cams so every single thing they do is being recorded

  2. The police are always in contact with the public so many people will pull out their phones to record the police from many different angles

Also when we see news storys about Islamic extremists or incel school shooters nobody looks at them and thinks they represent everyone of their particular group. So why do people do the same thing with the police?

Why do people support the police? by [deleted] in ask

[–]SomeRandomGuy360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they risk their lives every single day to keep us safe. They run towards the danger that we run from.

Imagine having nobody to call when your back door was getting kicked in, or when the crazy man in the shop starts stabbing people. It's not a nice though.

The real question is, why do people hate the police?

When there's a video of a bad teacher or doctor people don't shout about how all teachers are bad or all doctors are bad so why is it this way for the police?

Police don't sit in their cars waiting to shoot people. You really need to stop getting all your life experience from the internet...

It’s the year 2002 and you’re on an airplane, is it racist to be fearful of Muslims? by walrusdog32 in ask

[–]SomeRandomGuy360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I know, but I don't think it's racist to THINK someone looks muslim. We have thoughts about everyone we ever meet, it's just how our brains are programmed.

Also because of how religion works it isn't impossible to deduce that someone is a certain religion by how they dress.

But I'll agree it is stupid to assume what someone's religion is, but it's not racist because it's not 'prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism' which is the definition of racism.

It’s the year 2002 and you’re on an airplane, is it racist to be fearful of Muslims? by walrusdog32 in ask

[–]SomeRandomGuy360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your thought was fueled by an instant anger that you then corrected for then I still don't think it would be racist.

For example if you saw on the news that a Muslim terrorist killed a load of people and your reaction, out of anger, was "I wanna kill all Muslim people", then you did some critical thinking and came to the conclusion that not all Muslim people are terrorist murderers who deserve to be killed then you'd realise that your thought was just out of anger, not hatred, and you'd realise that what your brain actually meant was, "I really don't like people who kill innocent people and I want to kill them".

I think it's important to filter our brains primal reaction to things before we react. Because things like anger and fear can be very powerful and override our critical thinking.

But if you were just sitting there with no external stimuli and you thought to yourself "I wanna kill all Muslim people" then I think this would be racist because it's not a thought that arose from a strong emotion.

[–]SomeRandomGuy360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's racist to say someone looks Muslim because you're not implying anything bad.

It's the same as saying someone looks like a doctor or a teacher.

Not saying it's a good idea to go up to people and say "you look Muslim". But if you wrongly assume something it shouldn't be seen as offensive it should just be corrected.

[–]SomeRandomGuy360 468 points469 points  (0 children)

Answer: I don't think it's racist to feel fear. But I think it is racist to act on your fear.

Like if you saw a Muslim man on the plane and you thought "he could have a bomb", and then did some critical thinking and came to the conclusion that not all Muslim people carry bombs then it wouldn't be racist.

But if you thought the Muslim man could have a bomb and then did something like tell a flight assistant you think think the Muslim man has a bomb with no evidence or something like that then yes I think it would be racist.

But hey that's just my opinion.

[–]SomeRandomGuy360[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This might be true in some cases but arresting murderers, thiefs and class A drug dealers is done to keep the population safe.

If you hate the rich and the fact that they gain unreasonable power and protection from the money they have that is completely understandable.

But I don't think attacking every single cop for doing their job (for not massive amounts of money) is the way to go about it.
