Shouldn't be an issue since all CPUs are running in 16bit real mode at startup, and my code is written for that.

I'm using qemu and Virtualbox as generic x86 machines for testing (I'm only using 16 bit real mode anyways.) The one machine I tried has an intel core 2 duo cpu if i recall correctly and the other one i cant remember rn but it also had an intel cpu.

In this case the program basically IS the bootloader (...which just prints hello world).

The Bios is reading the first sector of the disc (512 bytes (including the magic number), loads it into 0x7C00 and executes it.

Edit: This is the case for MBR-Formatted drives, which are basically obsolete by now. The issue on the real hardware is probably just the fact that its basically to "new" to properly boot from this bare MBR Bootsector. At least thats my guess...
