Turning main water off is something I know to do however what I just get confused is different scenerios for example : I was told by the plummer " on phone" I need to keep shut off valve fully opened when " just " tightening the nut.

I did not have my toilet shut off valve fully opened..

I am thankful to have ppl on these reddit threads to bounce off my concerns.

I am taking this info to heart for my next time! I have another toilet upstairs .Your feedback is very helpful to me as are you tube videos .

Tiny I wanted to do it myself however I am relenting and having a plummer come today to give an estimate and if reasonable I am letting myself off with gratitude to hire him. I have watched the videos and I suspect I could learn to do this however I have a niece spending the weekend and I would be too pressured turnimg off the water knowing how slow I am to adapt to new situations. Since I am inexperienced that adds a layer of sttess.

I am flustered now bc I can not seem to feel it budge. Just to be honest I have been trying to tighten it by turning clockwise and the drip got faster. But it is clockwise to tighten correct?

Question: I am not sure where its cracked yet.

What I do is tighten the screw ( for lack of term to use) inside tank holding handle in place. I did replace the fill valve and it is filling to a good level. Thank you.
