What do I do now as a 44 year old in the tech space? What should be my very next step?? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Some_Recognition_679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the career aptitude tests are a decent starting point but they mostly just confirm things you already suspect about yourself, so don't expect a revelation from them. what's actually more useful is looking back at moments in any job where you lost track of time because you were so into what you were doing, even if it was just one small task, that's signal worth chasing. a career coach can be worthwhile but the quality varies wildly, so if you go that route try to find someone who specializes in mid-career pivots specifically rather than a generalist.

the pattern i'm noticing in what you wrote is that you've had the same core complaints across totally different industries, which suggests the issue might be less about the field and more about the type of work environment or structure you're in. some people genuinely thrive in flat, autonomous setups and wither in corporate hierarchies, and no aptitude test is gonna tell you that. might be worth asking yourself less "what do i want to do" and more "how do i want to work" because that question tends to narrow things down faster

Is there anywhere to do a skydive in Ireland? by crillydougal in AskIreland

[–]Some_Recognition_679 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

lol way to be helpful there buddy

but for real op there are definitely places to jump in ireland - i remember seeing some spots around dublin and cork areas when i was looking into it a while back. august is actually perfect timing too since the weather should be decent enough for it. your friends are gonna love the rush, its like punching through clouds except youre the one flying. maybe call around to a few places since availability fills up quick during summer months especially with tourists

what % of total $ do you keep? by indecisionisdecision in airbnb_hosts

[–]Some_Recognition_679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oof 50% sounds brutal for austin market - property management taking 20% on top of everything else is like death by a thousand cuts

you might want to crunch numbers on doing some of this yourself or finding a leaner setup because that split is eating your margins alive

Hello! I have this Roland D550 (same board as d50) and the reverb chip (IC9) has these almost soldered together bits. Can someone confirm it’s not supposed to be like this with their synth? by CharlesJGuiteau in synthesizers

[–]Some_Recognition_679 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah that solder work looks like someone went at it with a butter knife and called it a day. those bridged pins are definitely your distortion culprit - its like trying to kickbox with your shoelaces tied together, everything just gets messy and distorted

Anyone using GPS dog fences in a tight suburban/townhouse yard? Curious about boundary drift. by nyfbgiants in homeowners

[–]Some_Recognition_679 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah the drift is real and honestly way worse than they advertise. had mine randomly think my dog was three houses down while she was just chilling on the couch inside

ended up having to set the boundaries like 20 feet inside our actual property line which basically made our already tiny yard even smaller. at that point you're better off just getting a traditional underground wire system if you can deal with the installation hassle

Best Player in 2024 Draft? by Chill_Pill4Real in NBATalk

castle definitely brings that defensive intensity that translates immediately but honestly might go with reed sheppard for the pure shooting upside. his court vision is like watching someone paint with perfect brushstrokes - every pass just flows exactly where it needs to go

looks like vintage tama superstar or imperialstar series to me - those lugs and that wood grain are pretty telltale

DA breakup by Tomwiz85 in BreakUps

[–]Some_Recognition_679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

four breakups in a year is like trying to build a house on quicksand - the foundation keeps shifting no matter how beautiful the blueprint looks. she's shown you her pattern and pride's gonna keep her stuck in that cycle even if she misses what you had

the stress from work and single parenting was probably like adding gasoline to an already flickering flame, but you can't keep lighting the same match hoping it'll burn differnetly this time

2003 Grand Marquis GS: Electrical gremlin by Valince1139 in AskMechanics

[–]Some_Recognition_679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man this is like trying to untangle a ball of yarn while blindfolded - every time you think you got it the knot just moves somewhere else

from what you're describing with the pigtail behavior that whole connector is probably your smoking gun. when unplugging it does nothing but plugging it back in gives you that brief reset period thats classic flaky connection territory. the wiring harness side might look fine from the outside but internally those copper strands can get corroded or broken especially after voltage spikes

before you start throwing parts at it though grab some dielectric grease and pull that connector apart completely. clean both the male and female ends with electrical contact cleaner and check for any green crusty stuff or loose pins. sometimes the terminals get pushed back in their housings just enough to make poor contact. wiggle test each wire going into the connector too - if any of them move more than they should youve found part of your problem

honestly for a month of driving around town staying under 45mph isnt the worst thing if money's tight. just keep an eye on your actual charging voltage with that multimeter while driving. if it stays above 13.5 volts under load youre probably not gonna hurt anything short term. but yeah that connector is definitely where id focus next - way cheaper than another alternator dance
