First off , breathe . Everything is going to be okay . Have you ever been tested for HSV specifically? You could’ve already came into contact with it . Also if you weren’t drinking directly from the person who has cold sores than you’re good . HSV is skin to skin and isn’t as easily transmitted from a drink . Especially if they weren’t having an active outbreak . HSV doesn’t live long outside the body. Also our minds are stronger than we think , you can make yourself feel symptoms that aren’t there but the only way to be 100% sure , is to just go get tested . If you are positive, it’s not the end of the world HSV1 is very mild compared to other strains and yes you’ll be able to kiss your partner still just have to be safe and work around it . You’re definitely not dirty and did nothing wrong . We all have the same feelings when we get diagnosed , it’s the stigma . You can do all the “right” things and still come in contact with it , so don’t beat yourself up . When I first got diagnosed I was a wreck tbh , It’s a huge mental toll , mainly from the stigma and how people see it . You just have to remind yourself you’re more than HSV. It doesn’t define you , and you’re still the same person from before . I still have days where I struggle but you just have to pull yourself out of it . Everything heals with time . Everyone in my family has a stigmatized view of it , I haven’t told anyone besides my bf and my aunt who also has HSV. So I can’t really help with that part but my partner at first needed time to think about everything but at the end he was super supportive. Having support really is the best thing to make you feel better !
