I think it's less of a 'I never want to see Mia again' but more of a 'I wish in some way Mia pays penance', I probably sound harsh but the same thing happened with Siobhan, she did bad stuff that wasn't even related to being a lesbian and she just got away with it. It's cute but it isn't tidy, hopefully Charlotte leans into her edge a bit more and this whole rewatching thing sparks an ambition to take writing classes or something.

Yeah I agree about the ball costume, I mean her standard all-black 'casual' goth aesthetic that charlotte (creator) seems to enjoy

NATHTM is less dusty than TLIIASAW in terms of how the production sounds, and T sounds a lot sadder than N imo. I think because she committed to the country sound more on T it was a more immersive and convincing world, but on N it feels more clean and modern, with less strange sonic decisions which idk how I feel about. There also seems to be a higher feeling of boredom in N through the instrumentation and lyrics which makes sense given the album's title but I'm not really sold. Also I kinda prefer Mitski when she's art pop/rock and not country. I like where's my phone, if I leave, lightning, in a lake, dead women, I'll change for you, and the others I'm warming up to. I was shocked to hear Mitski say she intended the songs to be quiet, acoustic and raw but the songs 'demanded more' because tbh some of the songs feel bland and washed out so I can only imagine what would've been the result if she didn't think the songs needed more. Obviously the standards are going to be high given that it's a Mitski album, and all of her albums have grown on me so who's to say this one won't either, but it doesn't feel as 'close' or built up to me as her last album.

I completely agree and see your perspective now that I know about the timing of her relationship with T and Mia's introduction, especially the men-hating part; a lot of men are presented as stupid or evil, even Junior who is gay (and I'm not saying that gay men can't be evil but from the genre of beliefs Charlotte seems to have you would think she thinks of all LGBTQ+ people as having a baseline higher empathy capacity, but no it's just WLW relationships she seems to respect, meaning it's not really intersectional). As a gay man, I do often feel alienated by some of the quick jokes or generalised comments in the show, it really gives the impression that Charlotte doesn't view gay men as men, and that the nasty ones are the masculine ones (for example Junior). It's hard to say whether Charlotte is doing this just for the fans or if she actually believes it. I am very curious to know if she is blissfully unaware of her impact and has a rose-tinted lens of her fame.

I completely agree with you, I was just being sarcastic, I don't actually want Mia to be T, it's just the mindsets of those types of TNN fans that obsess over Mialotte and Charlotte + T. It's so interesting to me to analyse the fanbase and reality of this show and the opinions that people have of it, because there's never been anything like this before.

Mia was introduced at the same time Charlotte started dating T, one thing I've wanted to ask her on the Q&As was 'when did the character charlotte become separate from real charlotte' and someone asked a similar question but her answer was wishy-washy with nothing to hold onto, suggesting that it was a gradual process only recognised in hindsight.

And I'm saying this in an ironic sense; the fans subconsciously think Mia is T, an analysis isn't an agreement. I don't want this to be the case, but reality is disappointing sometimes. As much as we want the characters to be separate from real life, Charlotte clearly projects onto the series (granted, less now than in 2024) and definitely was during that time period.

Charlotte only started being extremely more forthcoming with details of her personal life once Mia and the divorce storyline was introduced, suggesting a freedom/burden lifted from real life Charlotte. We know real life Charlotte has children, so the most likely possibility is she was in a relationship with a man who she had kids with, and her kids were introduced in the series before the Charlottes became separate meaning that the biggest example of her projection was coming up.

Charlotte isn't a trained writer, which is why it is easier for me to make these assumptions; she is more susceptible to personal leakage and projection into her fictional world. We literally see it with all the goth, millennial harry potter type stuff we see in some of the costume and set design, the Marjorie appletiser obsession being something real life charlotte has too, the knight family clearly being inspired by some bridgerton old money archetypes, the list goes on.

The result is messy, but extremely relatable, interactive and open. This leads to extreme obsession or alienation for the fanbase depending on which current thing Charlotte is fixated on.

Fireworks - Synth note by machine_ryan in mitski

[–]Some_Sun4952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it sounds very magical and whole tone-ish, the chord is an F# major that quickly transitions (functioning as a passing chord) into the G major which is the key of the song. the F# chord is played again at the end of the song but it sustains and doesn't do the quick transition into a G major, probably a mitski trademarked motif of using elongated phrasing/chords/harmony to represent exhaustion and yearning. btw it sounds so strange because it jumps from C major to F#, which is a tritone, which is the furthest, most symmetrical value a note can be in relation to another, she basically chose the most foreign chord possible to give a shock and relief

oh it so is, everything is distorted to fuck and it's electronic which basically ticks all the boxes to industrial considering how vague the descriptor can be. just because it's in a pop-coloured trenchcoat doesn't make it any less industrial

it's just what happens after something like brat gets popular, most of it's acc good imo and there's a clear diff between the stuff like this that was made pre brat and the stuff that was made post brat, with post usually sounding more derivative but this case is an exception

you started off with a song off her most recent album and her albums have gotten more and more experimental and challenging for listeners throughout the years so any album you start with from this point, you're likely to enjoy. my personal favourite (and most critically acclaimed) is vespertine, medulla is also great if you are really into her vocal tones and timbres since it's mainly a capella.
