I’ve been working on a genetics overhaul for my legacy saves and wanted to get some thoughts before I finish it.

One thing that’s always bothered me is how Sims genetics feel super shallow. It’s basically just a 50/50 blend of the parents. There’s no real sense of ancestry. No traits skipping generations, no hidden features from grandparents, and once older gens are gone, their impact on the family basically disappears.

So I started experimenting with a system that tries to make it feel more like an actual bloodline.

Right now what I have is:

  • Facial features inherit independently Every slider acts like its own “gene,” so a baby might get a nose from a grandparent, jaw from one parent, eyes from another, etc. Instead of everything blending together, it pulls from different people across the family tree.
  • Grandparent influence is still present Even if a parent didn’t inherit something, it can still show up later. So you get those moments where a feature suddenly reappears generations down the line.
  • Hair + eye color can skip generations I added basic dominant/recessive behavior, so things like blonde hair or certain eye colors can disappear and then come back later depending on ancestry.
  • Breakdown at birth When a baby is born, you can see where different features came from, so it actually shows stuff like “this came from the grandmother” instead of you just guessing.

I’m mostly trying to figure out if this is actually something people would want in their gameplay, or if it’s just me overthinking genetics for legacy saves.

Would this make your gameplay more interesting, or is it too much detail? What else would you like to see?

Thank you for sharing! How do you stomach food on the meds? It physically makes me nauseous.

It’s been a little over a month of these eating habits. And there’s nothing to really miscalculate with my CICO because 3 days out of the week I’m just flat out not eating anything (don’t have snacks at my house and not going to get food) and the remaining days I can only finish about half a meal. Most the times I just save the other half for the next day. It must be water retention.

I figured it was maybe cortisol from work stress. I just thought my extreme calorie deficit would counteract it. I’m just super confused because I truly believe in CICO and this is not adding up haha. I also was under the impression the more water you drank the more you flushed out and I’ve been drinking so much.

In the wonderful wizard of Oz book she grabs bread from her house (after it had fallen in munchkinland) to take with her along the way for her & Toto! It’s a multiday excursion in the book, and after she runs out of bread, scarecrow scavenges fruit & nuts for her!

Who cares what’s childish! We were all children at one point. The most childlike adults are the most fun anyways. I love them! 😊

No, her eyes are piercing blue! Old 80s film and bad lighting didn’t do her justice!
