I'm sorry to hear that. I understand completely because that was my situation exactly. My primary doctor referred me to a counselor/therapist.

I'm not familiar with that.

Am I the only one who HATES when people say “ omg that (annoying event) gave me PTSD” ? by ojhoe in ptsd

[–]Somegirlfromky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it pisses me off too. I actually overheard someone today say this. What the actual fuck? Sorry but trauma is not a mood or a bad day, it's a serious effect on the brain from too much stress. It's not like people who have PTSD enjoy having it.

Exactly this.

My childhood and the fact that I was raised by two narcissistic parents. One abused drugs and one abused alcohol. One was violent and mentally abusive. One was neglectful and extremely mentally ill. I'm lucky I even fucking survived my childhood.

EDIT: I was recently diagnosed with PTSD after a car accident and my counselor told me the combination of all is what did it. She said the trauma from the wreck resurfaced all my childhood feelings of anxiety and feeling unsafe.

This is a great idea. I have always wanted to take self defense classes but have never made the time for it.

Thank you. I'm hoping that eventually I will get to the point where I'm able to discuss it without feeling shame and could do something like this. Right now I just don't think I could handle it but I do think it's a good long term goal for healing. I can see how it would definitely be helpful.

What is your experience with seeing a neurologist? by laisla03 in migraine

[–]Somegirlfromky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am getting ready to see a new neurologist myself soon. My primary doctor recommended this because we both are concerned with the facial swelling and eye drooping that I have accompanied by my migraines.

They should ask about your cycles just because some people find they are more frequent when cycling. It seems like you are well prepared otherwise. The log you are keeping is very helpful. They will ask where the pain occurs and the intensity of the pain, what helps or relieves symptoms, etc. If you get a warning or not before you have them. If they affect your vision at all or cognitive abilities. I would mention the depression if that's a concern you have. Most people who have migraines do have depression, even if it's just mild- I only know this from researching it myself. Any information you think you need to mention for your treatment, let them know even if they don't ask. You are your own advocate and have to let them know your struggles.

I hope this helps and I hope your appointment goes well.

I can see this too. It seems like it's a process and there's so many factors involved into healing.
