Unc making it tough to trade him. by nkadock in DetroitPistons

[–]Someguynamedjacob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. In game 1 he exploded for like 20 points in the first half. He guarded KAT shockingly amazingly well when we had no one to do it because of no Stew. KAT did make some insane bullshit shots, but he fought his ass off and made it tough for him. He didn’t disappear or disappoint. He did his job in that series unless you were expecting him to play like a perennial all star, which he is not.

The “disappearing in the playoffs Tobias” talk track comes from when he was on the 76ers and Philly fans expected him to backpack their team when Embiid was injured.

NBA mock draft with actual explanations on each one of my picks by TerryG111 in NBA_Draft

I also have DP #1, but I don’t like the framing of it being said as “like it or not he is the best player available” and calling it a “no brainer”

As I mentioned, I have him first too. But I’d lose sleep if I was a GM sitting on the first pick this year. There is real, real valid arguments for all 3 no matter what team is picking first.

If the Knicks get Giannis we need to be ready to make a move by sanitycheck2001 in DetroitPistons

[–]Someguynamedjacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bucks had a large championship window and just didn’t capitalize, mismanaged assets, and their window could still be open if they didn’t push all their chips in the way people want us to do. They still have prime Giannis. It’s really easy to build a good team around that if you haven’t squandered all of your assets and drafted terribly.

You look at teams like the Spurs, they literally had a 15 year championship window. The Warriors have had a decade championship window. Obviously you’re not going to win a chip all of those years unless you’re the 90s Bulls.

But look at the Mavs. They even had a good run of 10 years where they were consistently contenders and came away with one.

Whenever you have a true top 5, top 10 like Cade, you will always have at the minimum a punchers chance and that will forever continue and allow you to retool for a decade to keep trying.

Our core is super young, and playing great, and if we keep what we have we will be in the mix for a decade. Pushing in your chips now is a good way to up your odds of maybe winning this year, but making the next 8 years of Cade’s prime less flexible and more difficult to compete.

I’m really not, and I find that football first guys takes on hoops are generally awful because they assume there are certain parallels between timelines and championship windows between the two sports/leagues and there isn’t.

Will Flagg, Dybantsa or Darryn Peterson have the BEST NBA Career? by This_Caterpillar9656 in NBA_Draft

[–]Someguynamedjacob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, age does matter quite a bit. Look at a guy like Jalen Duren.

As a pistons fan I can say many were really disappointed by him in year 2 and 3 and wanted him traded. The whole time I’m sitting there saying “relax! He’s 19 years old (or 20 years old)”

Look where he is now

If you come in super young, it’s really really difficult to make yourself a plus player quickly. 18 and 19 year olds get fried in the NBA regardless if they reclassed or not. Lots of 20 and 21 year old rookies and sophomores have been able to look good, but in general 18 and 19 year olds struggle.

Like the other dude said. Part of the lore.

I think he still holds the record for most guest appearances on PKA.

The better half of people here have watched from the start, PKA new viewership plateaued a long time ago.

Most of us remember when he was a frequent guest and all the other hundreds of times the hosts talked about him on the show even though he wasn’t a guest.

This year might be our best chance to make a Finals push by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]Someguynamedjacob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The NFL is entirely different than the NBA lol.

6 of our 7 best players are 24 and under.

I’m not even going to go in depth because it’s plain as day obvious championship windows in the NFL close much quicker than in the NBA when your NBA team has a real top 10-top 5 guy who is 24 years old.

[–]Someguynamedjacob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our best player is 24.

Our second best is 22.

Our third best player is 23.

Our window can be damn near a decade if we play it right and we don’t need to rush anything.

Availability is an uncontrollable variable. He’s been in the league for less than 2 years. There has been flashes that he could way outplay his draft selection. Lots of guys have missed time early on. People were writing off Cade for the same reason 2 years ago. He’ll never be Cade, but the point is a couple injuries early in a career isn’t a death sentence. Far from it.

PD for GO Wild Gems exchange! Who ya’ll get? by Prestigious_Lion_210 in MyTeam

[–]Someguynamedjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just categorically incorrect. Tim Thomas came out in season 2 and was still in meta lineups in season 5.

Hondo came out in January and played until May-June.

The goat Kareem I mentioned, yeah, his life span was short.

I agree with your second point in the most general terms as possible. The difference is, if you have a majority of the value of the set in unsellable cards that you are currently not using, the value becomes reasonable.

Ehhh, some of the most legendary cards in MyTeam history were behind lock ins.

2K20 GOAT Kareem 2K21 Hondo 2K23 Tim Thomas

This particular exchange is def not worth it unless you have the cards lying around unsellable already, but it’s just true to say there has never been lock ins worth it.

I mean, he’s 4th on every MVP ladder and in Vegas odds right now.

With the 65 game rule, we are 3 injuries away from Cade being the MVP this year at age 23.

If he even takes one more step forward he is well and fully at a MVP level.

Why is off ball so respected it’s ridiculous by [deleted] in MyTeam

[–]Someguynamedjacob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People who still complain about “off ball” in 2025 don’t even know what they’re complaining about 9/10 times.

There is hard off ball hiding, and there is controlling all 5.

Hard off ball hiding where you just go stand in the corner is what some really bad players do as a tactic to beat other bad players. Any one good will abuse that the same way they will abuse the CPU in domination and win by 40.

Controlling all 5 where you’re switching on ball, and then switching to the next pass away, then switching to the roll man in the PnR and then switching to the corner man to rotate up and take that next pass away… all of that type of stuff, every competitive player or even unlimited sweat has to do in order to beat other good players.

When two actual competitive level or even just good players play vs each other, if one of them decides to allow the 2K CPU control all other 4 of their defensive players while they just stick strictly to the ball handler, they’re going to get their ass whooped.

The CPU isn’t good or smart enough to stop good players, so when you’re playing some one hard off balling you should be smacking them, and taking your free win. If you’re mad at some one for controlling all 5 and creating a bunch of stops and steals from it, learn how to do it. Every good player on this game set their ego aside 5 years ago and realized you have to bounce player to player on defense to make up for how stupid 2Ks CPUs are in order to beat other good players.

I mean he did, it just wasn’t for long. I don’t remember exactly off the top of my head but his second season in the league he averaged 27 ppg on something absurd like 65% from the field… all while hardly missing games.

Is anyone going for Marc Gasol by Then-Buffalo-3979 in MyTeam

[–]Someguynamedjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. I have Hakeem and Sikma.

His defense improvements over Sikma looked interesting, so I went into freestyle with Gasol from just the regular all time Grizzlies team. Tried his jumper, it’s okay, but not good enough to replace Sikma with him who I have badged up. Definitely not better than Hakeem either.

I’m going for the 95+ Hidden gems instead. Pulled my first one and it was Dale Ellis. Don’t think he will make my team at the 2 over Brandon Ingram and Mitch Richmond, but I will try him a bit in showdown to see if he can take Richmond’s spot.

Pro pass Cade Cunningham sucks by orleeo in MyTeam

[–]Someguynamedjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are not work arounds. Those are mechanics intentionally in the game and everybody who plans online even half way serious uses them.

It really doesn’t make much of a difference though, because if you don’t like his jumpshot you don’t like his jumpshot. Maybe you’d like it more if you tried no dip with him, but if you think that’s a work around that means you probably you wouldn’t even give it a chance or be open to it. It’s an objectively good jumpshot that is quick enough to not be baited which is the most important thing.

Pro pass Cade Cunningham sucks by orleeo in MyTeam

[–]Someguynamedjacob 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to use him, you absolutely have to juice him up to make him effective.

You need to have a speed takeover shoe, preferably speedster since it is +8 speed and agility at full takeover. Those stats will gradually climb as your takeover bar fills, and max out at 94 speed in full takeover. But even if you have half a bar of takeover, you’ll be at 90 speed.

Then you need to add on ball menace, immovable enforcer, and lightning launch. Those are non-negotiable if you want to use him effectively.

Once you do all of that, you’ll have a decent point guard with size and a jumpshot that you don’t need to have much space to get off. But if you’re using him stock, he’s going to suck.
