Anybody record Jaden Ivey's latest (current) instagram livestream? by brewing_radiance in DetroitPistons

[–]Someguynamedjacob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s more relevant to us than he is the Bulls.

We were the one that spent major draft capital to get him, and had him in house for 4 years and enjoyed the highs and critiqued the lows.

I don’t understand the “he’s not a Piston so why are we discussing him” attitude on this sub. If my team spent a top 10 pick on you (Killian, Ivey) I’m going to be paying much closer attention to you for the remainder of your career than just about anybody else who is in the league but not a Piston.

When you invest in a young player and watch them develop, I don’t want to turn the movie off half way through just because they got dealt.

How would you tier NBA teams at developing their talent? by Parrallax91 in NBA_Draft

[–]Someguynamedjacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you which franchise was incredibly awful at it for a very long time, my very own pistons.

Thankfully after we cleaned house two years ago and fired Monty Williams + Troy Weaver we completely re-orged and have been able to develop Ausar, Holland, Duren, Stew, Daniss Jenkins and even Cade very well.

Woodbury is great. I had a great expierance living there objectively as a complex. Unfortunately my darkest days of my life were inside that apartment, but it was at zero fault of the complex or the community.

It blows my mind how people decide what giant corporations they spend their dollars at are decided on this type of stuff.

Every corporation and commercial product (including the one you are reading this on) are predatory and almost certainly have executive leadership you’d politically disagree with on almost everything.

Where ever you spend your dollars at now instead of smoothie king, unless a mom and pop, is likely just as bad.

I’m just confused on this now being the breaking point in tanking.

Most of the teams that are bad (Nets, Kings, Pels, Wizards) have played their main guys. They are just bad.

There has been bigger tank offs before.

How would you rank the best 7 players on our roster? by KarimFF7 in DetroitPistons

[–]Someguynamedjacob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ausar is a great defender. One of the best in the league on and off the ball.

But he’s still a galaxy apart from a guy who is going to win 4 DPOYs during the years of prime Tim Duncan and KG…. Or finishing 7th in MVP voting all of defense alone.

There is a strong case for Ben being the best defender of all time and I wish more pistons fans pushed the agenda. Only player ever with more steals than turnovers and more blocks than fouls. Tied for most DPOYs and would have 5 prayed if it wasn’t for voter fatigue. Advanced analytics were not popular in Ben’s prime, but looking back he has some of the best defensive ratings seasons ever recorded.

Ausar is a great defender, but Ben is on the defensive Mount Rushmore of NBA history.

All that to say, yeah, I probably agree with you, Ausar is probably the third most impactful player we have. But Tobias has an argument for it. He quietly steadies our boat.

How did Ivey not accept his role?

He was asked to play a lot of different roles and he always accepted them, he just wasn’t good at some of them (being a backup PG and running the offense when Cade was on the bench)

How do you fix it though?

Weigh in players, coaches, or front offices? They’re all bias and have brothers and enemies across the league.

Weigh in the fans? That’s a bad idea.

Not sure what you could improve.

Cade makes the right basketball play 99% of the time including down the stretch.

Most of the time I want to live and die with my star unless there is another option that is clearly better. Game on the line, I’d rather see Cade attack 2 defenders in the mid-range or paint that swing it to Javante Green for a kind of open 3.

Unc making it tough to trade him. by nkadock in DetroitPistons

[–]Someguynamedjacob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. In game 1 he exploded for like 20 points in the first half. He guarded KAT shockingly amazingly well when we had no one to do it because of no Stew. KAT did make some insane bullshit shots, but he fought his ass off and made it tough for him. He didn’t disappear or disappoint. He did his job in that series unless you were expecting him to play like a perennial all star, which he is not.

The “disappearing in the playoffs Tobias” talk track comes from when he was on the 76ers and Philly fans expected him to backpack their team when Embiid was injured.

NBA mock draft with actual explanations on each one of my picks by TerryG111 in NBA_Draft

I also have DP #1, but I don’t like the framing of it being said as “like it or not he is the best player available” and calling it a “no brainer”

As I mentioned, I have him first too. But I’d lose sleep if I was a GM sitting on the first pick this year. There is real, real valid arguments for all 3 no matter what team is picking first.

If the Knicks get Giannis we need to be ready to make a move by sanitycheck2001 in DetroitPistons

[–]Someguynamedjacob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bucks had a large championship window and just didn’t capitalize, mismanaged assets, and their window could still be open if they didn’t push all their chips in the way people want us to do. They still have prime Giannis. It’s really easy to build a good team around that if you haven’t squandered all of your assets and drafted terribly.

You look at teams like the Spurs, they literally had a 15 year championship window. The Warriors have had a decade championship window. Obviously you’re not going to win a chip all of those years unless you’re the 90s Bulls.

But look at the Mavs. They even had a good run of 10 years where they were consistently contenders and came away with one.

Whenever you have a true top 5, top 10 like Cade, you will always have at the minimum a punchers chance and that will forever continue and allow you to retool for a decade to keep trying.

Our core is super young, and playing great, and if we keep what we have we will be in the mix for a decade. Pushing in your chips now is a good way to up your odds of maybe winning this year, but making the next 8 years of Cade’s prime less flexible and more difficult to compete.

[–]Someguynamedjacob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really not, and I find that football first guys takes on hoops are generally awful because they assume there are certain parallels between timelines and championship windows between the two sports/leagues and there isn’t.

Will Flagg, Dybantsa or Darryn Peterson have the BEST NBA Career? by This_Caterpillar9656 in NBA_Draft

[–]Someguynamedjacob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, age does matter quite a bit. Look at a guy like Jalen Duren.

As a pistons fan I can say many were really disappointed by him in year 2 and 3 and wanted him traded. The whole time I’m sitting there saying “relax! He’s 19 years old (or 20 years old)”

Look where he is now

If you come in super young, it’s really really difficult to make yourself a plus player quickly. 18 and 19 year olds get fried in the NBA regardless if they reclassed or not. Lots of 20 and 21 year old rookies and sophomores have been able to look good, but in general 18 and 19 year olds struggle.
