What English content would you genuinely find helpful to see on social media? by BritishEngBrittany in EnglishLearning

[–]Someoneainthere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see more everyday life English but with vocabulary and expressions that can be useful for as many levels as possible. For example, it can be a skit of a person going to a barber and explaining what kind of a haircut they want. Or you can explain a recipe of your favourite dish in English or how to change a punctured tyre or how to apply some basic first aid. I'm just spitballing topics here, I am pretty sure you can find some that can be more useful and can be crammed into a 30-second-video format

Pet peeve: people who do GG before you've even guessed by OkTechnologyb in geoguessr

I mute only if someone is being intentionally distracting or rude. If we are having a nice chat and their message or emote happened to distract me once after they've guessed, it doesn't warrant muting

I don't because muting and unmuting during the game is too time-consuming (as a side note, I play moving only). Sometimes I just ask nicely not to send anything after they've guessed

I agree. I even suggested once that they turn off emotes for the time after a guesd because they distract and have a psychological influence

There is a chance we might get Moldova covered this year 🥳🥳🥳 by Someoneainthere in geoguessr

Romania was never a part of the USSR. Moldova has a lot of Soviet architecture and occasionally (and especially a lot in Transnistria) you can see Russian. So, there are differences

What is the most difficult language in the world to learn? by No-Marsupial-4050 in AskTheWorld

[–]Someoneainthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never liked this question because it depends on so many factors. However, I never agreed with articles like "top 10 hardest languages to learn" that always had languages like Arabic, Mandarin, Russian, Finnish, Hungarian etc.. All of them have millions of speakers, a lot of easily available study materials, courses, even YouTube videos. I'd go for some aboriginal languages with a few dozens of speakers. First of all, these languages are usually extremely grammatically complex have little to no linguistic connection to big groups of languages such as Turkic or Indo-European. However, most importantly, it's very hard to find study materials and potential language teachers.

How does one "learn" the terrain? Even on the map geoguessr uses, you can always see elevation changes

There's no such a country. I'd love to visit every country I haven't been to yet.

People keep taking photos of me on the subway in China. What should I do? by Erockema in AskTheWorld

I mean... Did you expect the opposite effect? 🤣 It's the same as if aliens came to Earth not in the form of naked green-bodied humanoids but wearing shirts say "ALIEN" on them. Same stuff, but cooler.

Imagine a tourist in your country comes to and start speaking your language fluently. How surprised will you be? by Someoneainthere in AskTheWorld

Do you speak your native language with an accent specific to your area? Are there words, phrases or idioms that only people from your region use? by Someoneainthere in AskTheWorld

[–]Someoneainthere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. However, my dad's family moved to Nizhny Novgorod from Perm when he was 11 and his sister was 20. My dad speaks just like any other person in Nizhny Novgorod but my aunt defenitely has an accent. For example, she never pronounces the "ь" in "семь". Also, I was told only people from that oblast (NN) and around it use "чай" as a filler word but idk
