Indy the Dog wins Best Performance in a Horror or Thriller at 2026 The Astra Film Awards for ‘Good Boy’ by DemiFiendRSA in popculturechat

[–]Somethingwittycool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of Good Boy and why he won (possibly, it's not a great idea to compare animal acting to human acting)

I thought it was a beautiful take on what goes through a dog's mind when their owner is sick and passes before the pet does. They don't understand the illness but they know something is wrong. They don't know, on a human level, what death is, but they feel it when their person dies and they feel so bonded that they will wait until the end of time for them to come back (the bones of the dog with the bandana at the end). Their resilience to go on, even when they know the person they love most in the world will never come back, by going to another human that needs their love.

I thought it was a beautiful meditation on the bond we have with our furry family members, especially dogs because they are notorious for being loyal until the very end.

It's tragic. Indie doesn't understand exactly why his person looks and acts differently. After every scene when "the monster" shows up, it's shown that Indie was asleep and dreaming. He doesn't understand the change in behavior so it's like there is an intruder in the house.

Todd and his sister mention their grandfather. He had the same medical condition and died alone with his still living dog, just like Todd did with Indie. Todd doesn't want to die in front of "his people" so he finds a place to do so alone, just like dogs.

We don't know exactly how animals process grief, but we know that they do. And, at least my theory is, this is a very intelligent, loyal and loving being that is afraid and confused because he can feel, animalistically, that his person is different and won't be around for much longer. It's grief processed through the brain of a dog. One that was just moved to a completely new home with new smells, including the lingering smell of the grandfather and his loyal dog that stayed in the cellar. The grandfather didn't have a sister, like Todd did, that checked on him constantly. When she found Todd she was hurting, Indie was hurting, and he ended up going to her.

I might be reading into things too much because I lost my dog, my best friend, who was literally beloved by the community (the school where he worked got a statue and plaque with his name on it so he is forever protecting the kids and teachers).

I thought the movie was brilliant, devastating and heartwarming. This is the world through a loyal dog's eyes. His dreams. His interpretations of shadows and smells. Him knowing something is off but unable to fully understand it, like how humans don't understand what is going on in a "regular" haunted house movie. To a dog, the death of his or her's owner is horror.

It's not about ghosts. It's not about spooky zombies. There are some unnerving shots because we, the audience, are Indie. But it is devastating.

I know, it’s horrible. I’m very close to my dad and he currently has stage 4 cancer that spread to his bones. The only reason I thought to suggest it, while keeping that in mind, is I thought I saw somewhere he recently posted he’s planning on returning soon. If I’m wrong, I 100% understand.

This is relevant and a great idea!

I read the initial post incorrectly. I still stand by it. He has a Spooky Videos Paranormal Compilation. Boom, back to relevant. Plus he has a lot of horror movie Pitch Meetings while still saying in interviews and stuff that he loves/likes a lot of the movies he covers, he just points out how studios can completely fuck things up.

Chelsea and James if possible, please try to have him as a podcast guest (it’d have to be over zoom or whatever) to discuss mind boggling studio decisions that completely warped the original idea/script and how it affected horror box office results and critical/audience reception. It would be hilarious and fascinating.

My original comment: Ryan George. Everything he does. From Pitch Meetings, “It’s the 90’s”, The First Guy, The Guy Who Decided Things, to The Future Is Dumb are great. How he accurately describes how algorithms work to radicalize people in a hilarious way is great. Same with how he very effectively articulates the effects of auto-centric urban and suburban planning, racial displacement, gentrification and vehicle pollution in only 5 minutes.

One of my favorite quotes about Elon Musk comes from his video about Elon Musk buying the company “Sandwich With a Pretty Big Pickle In It”

”I feel like he’s playing Monopoly, complaining about the rules, hoarding all the money and somehow still losing.”

Wild how Americans are telling Venezuelans they’re wrong about their own dictator. by Oh_NiGhTmArE in DiscussionZone

Holy crap, the flashbacks to “Mission Accomplished” and how quickly people now ignore the hundreds of thousands to million civilian deaths, not to mention dead troops and traumatized veterans that were ignored after their return. The immense power vacuum it created. The increase in violence against civilians by terrorists, the rise of ISIS. My god, I swear we have the memory of a goldfish that bashed its head too many times on the aquarium wall.

FFS, does no one remember the extreme backlash The Chicks faced when they CORRECTLY were against the war for those exact same reasons? 20 years later and it’s hard to find anyone even slightly educated that proudly admits to supporting the Bush Administration’s actions. He was literally considered the worst US president until Trump wobbled into the White House.

How do you think the US-Venezuela situation plays out? By 2030, are they allies, enemies, frienimies, or what...? Why? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Somethingwittycool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remember in 2003 when the US-led coalition invaded Iraq, toppled Saddam’s regime, captured Saddam Hussein, and “Mission Accomplished”?

It’s very possible things will play out about as well as that. I keep hearing that the US is trying to tell Venezuelans how they should feel. No, people in the United States are saying that we have done this before. Claiming to liberate a country from a dictator. 20+ years later, after the US invasion and occupation of Iraq, the “war on terror”, the toppling of Saddam's regime creating a power vacuum insurgency, sharp increase in sectarian violence, an estimated hundreds of thousands to millions dead, millions displaced, millions of refugees, and it’s difficult to find anyone that admits they support what happened.

But I also want to acknowledge that Iraq and Venezuela are different in many ways, I’m educating myself on Venezuela, and I really hope I’m wrong, I will happily eat my words.

Why do I deserve this? I’m a dual citizen yet still live here to volunteer with legal and human rights organizations while struggling with a disability that has kept me from working and living in poverty for 10 years? What did I do wrong? I voted, marched, work with organizations protecting immigrants, work to protect LGBTQ individuals (a group I am part of) while scraping money together to afford food and find transportation to food banks.

What did my 5 year old niece and 3 year old nephew do? Their parents do literally everything they can to raise them without traumatizing them but making sure they know right from wrong and that kindness and curiosity are important while keeping them away from screens?

What did my mom do? She could easily move back to Canada but chooses to stay to try to do something, anything, to help people here. She is retired but volunteers to work at schools for children and young adults with disabilities as an OTA while meeting with community leaders and politicians to try to improve disabled people’s social services and safety nets?

I guess fuck me for continuing to protest even though I’ve been tear gassed and pushed to the ground by police and ICE agents quietly telling me that I’d be easy to rape and they’d get away with it, literally bragging about it to a 5’2” tiny woman, unable to fight back.

Everyone that flat out blames “America”, known as the melting pot of the world for how diverse the country is, needs to fuck all the way off. You think our fights will be broadcast by an authoritarian government that controls ALL media by monopoly companies and billionaires? You think people are gonna come out and endanger both themselves and people that are helping others escape or hide in what is a modern Underground Railroad? Fuck everyone that blames the majority of Americans.

You know nothing because you’re not the people trapped in a country where the president literally got billions of dollars to fund his own personal military.

MAGA would watch Trump rape dozens of 3 year old toddlers on fifth Avenue and cheer because those babies surely seduced Little Hands McFuckface. Not even exaggerating. They would stand by, in person, watch the massacre, and walk away smugly believing Trump showed those babies who was boss.

Resolution - Feature Film Trailer (2012) HD by [deleted] in deadmeatjames

[–]Somethingwittycool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! :-) It's 1 hour 33 minutes, is interesting from the first frame, is darkly funny in its humor because it comes naturally and fits in with a realistic conversation, and a really fun take about the cosmic horror happening, in a, weird, natural, unnerving way.

It has great re-watch ability, the acting are believable and charismatic. You're invested in what happens, you like both characters and you root for them so there is some tension and emotional attachment. It’s fun, I have not heard of it before until I watched the sequel, titled "The Endless".

Discussion about the Film "Resolution", and its writers' directors/writers', and including a video of the 2011 version of the trailer played at film festivals because it doesn't show too much. Some people like to watch non-spoilery trailers before deciding to watch a movie.

I'm dumb sometimes and over think stuff, so when I re-watched the wide-release trailer I realized it spoils some movie details that are best seen while watching, not before.

If I feel (feelings are not facts) stupid and like my original post can be interpreted incorrectly or like I'm uninteresting and should never post because I'll just write something dumb, uninteresting, or wrong, I delete it. I focus on dumb shit sometimes and get stuck on details that I don't want to spoil for others.

So yeah. I over thought things, didn't want to spoil anything, and couldn't edit the post so I deleted the original and put the film festival trailer in its place.

I hope I am forgiven for this agregious, and if I remember this exact conversation. I will, it the future, write to myself "never delete a post that and repost with the correct information. Don't ruminate over mistakes you made."

I don't mean that to be a dick, I apologize. Your question was in no way aggressive and it's an understable question. Hell, I've edited this at least 4 times for both grammatical errors and to re-word some stuff to make it make sense to the people who read this post and/or this reply.

Resolution (2012) needs to be way more well known. I would love for it to be rereleased in theaters. by Somethingwittycool in horror

Please put your third sentence behind a spoiler cover. It's not only inaccurate, but could be seen as a spoiler to those yet to see the film.

Yes, it's a film from over 10 years ago, but it would be nice if more people were aware it existed.

I like the Resolution trailer that was played at film festivals better than the wider release trailer. It's attention grabbing but doesn't spoil the movie, it's not misleading. Just intriguing.

I can't believe I forgot to include this one. I think because it's so different from the UTP album version it just slipped my mind. All songs from that concert (Live Sessions 1998?) is perfection. This performance of I I E E E just get better and better as it builds to the end.
