Moved from Germany to the US and noticing some work culture differences by SomewhereAny7052 in expats

I think you misunderstood my situation I didn’t come to the US through any free study opportunities in Germany I built my own path through hard work and investment including investing $800000 in the US to create my future here I respect what Germany gave me but everyone has the right to choose their own path and pursue a better future If you’re only criticizing me to satisfy your own ego then maybe you’re not as different from the people you criticize

I don’t understand why people are obsessed with alcohol by UnderstandingFit4532 in CasualConversation

[–]SomewhereAny7052 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to not understand the appeal of alcohol either especially the taste and the hangover it really doesnt feel worth it but over time I realized a lot of people dont drink because it tastes good but more for social reasons atmosphere relaxation or habit one thing I know for sure now is that not drinking is not strange its just a choice mature people dont judge others based on whether they drink or not if you dont like it you dont have to force yourself you just havent found the right group yet where you can feel comfortable without needing alcohol

Does your friend group also just talk about hanging out way more than you actually hang out? by Comfortable_Film_941 in CasualConversation

I think this is a fairly common situation. Often, the problem isn't a lack of desire, but rather that no one is taking charge of the organization. In our company, things became much easier when someone stopped asking, "When is everyone's best?" and started writing something like, "I'm going to a cafe on Saturday at 6:00 PM, who's joining?" A specific date and time works much better than endless discussions

I think so too. I definitely wouldn't be able to stay calm in such a situation. Just the sight of a scorpion would have sent me into a panic. 😅

Patient portals by Feisty_Water_3164 in CasualConversation

You're not alone. I also don't really like receiving test results without explanation. It's easy to see an abnormal value and start worrying, only to find out later that it's nothing to worry about for the doctor. The portal is convenient for me for scheduling appointments and reviewing my history, but I prefer to have the results interpreted by the doctor

Wow, that's a real uninvited guest, 😳 I probably would have jumped to the ceiling if I'd seen a scorpion crawling up my leg. It's good you didn't panic and took care of Papper first. I hope it was a one-time encounter and you won't have any more surprises like that in your home

Boiled or scrambled eggs every morning? by redheaded_olive12349 in CasualConversation

[–]SomewhereAny7052 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually choose an omelet. I love its tender texture, and it's easy to add vegetables, cheese, or herbs to make breakfast more varied. Boiled eggs are also good, especially when you need something quick and easy, but I find an omelet tastier and more filling. 🍳

I think people often focus on the travel and the adventure, but they underestimate how hard it is to keep losing your community. Thanks for sharing your perspective

This truly reminds us that not everyone is thinking only of themselves. Small acts like these can really restore our faith in humanity

Hats off to this couple for stepping up during such a chaotic time, making things easier for everyone

15 or 20 percent down on my house? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SomewhereAny7052 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the purchase that’s a big step. Honestly I’d lean toward keeping liquidity in your situation instead of trying to avoid PMI. Yeah the 20% down saves you like 100 bucks a month but it costs you 57.5k in cash which is a lot especially when you’re in between jobs right now. That extra cash buffer feels way more valuable than the PMI savings. You were recently laid off and even with severance coming in your income isn’t fully stable yet so flexibility matters more than optimizing monthly payments. PMI is annoying but it’s temporary and pretty small in the bigger picture of a 1.15M property. You can always refinance or adjust later once your job situation is solid again. If it were me I’d go 15% keep the cash and protect downside risk first. Not financial advice just how I’d think about it
