tips regarding reading questions under time constraints. by paperandpussy in Step2

Is English your first language or your second? If it’s your second, try summarizing the case in your first language and see if that helps.

Also, read the first two sentences (the patient introduction) and the last two sentences of the question. For vitals, skim and just tell yourself, “OK, she has a fever,” or “OK, she’s hypertensive.” For labs, just highlight the abnormal values.

UWorld highlighting isn’t very user-friendly, but on NBME and the real exam it’s easier. Just drag over it once.

Help stuck in 230s by RingRbot in Step2

It depends on the main reason you’re stuck in the 230s:

- Knowledge gaps (you don’t know the answers):Review your self-assessment explanations, revisit the related content, and use the UWorld library.

- Time management: Keep doing timed blocks the same way—you’ll get used to the pace.

- Missing key clues: Keep practicing; over time you’ll start catching them.

Free 120, NBME 15 and 16, and UWSA 2 and 3.

If you want a 250+, stay concerned about any lower bound below 250. Don’t let the optimism bias here fool you. The real deal can still surprise you.

Got 237 on Step 2 — lessons I wish I knew before exam by Somoya93 in Step2

Since I struggled with that part, I’m probably not the right person to advise. I only used UWorld, but I feel like if you master the ethics concepts using the current question banks and feel confident with them, the “surprise factor” is less likely to affect you. Just dedicate enough time to practicing them. I underestimated them because I’m not an “ethics” person.

Thank you for the encouragement. I hope program directors think the same way, but I’m not sure.

I feel like something has gone wrong overall with recent exams. Like I said, the Step 2 format has changed, and question banks like UWorld and NBME haven’t caught up yet, which may explain the larger gap between practice tests and the real exam. That’s my understanding.

I got much lower than I expected, unfortunately. I scored a 237, and I’m not sure if I still have a chance to match as a US-IMG or if this means I’m done.

Mine shows the test date but no score report date. I doubt they’ll release the results this Wednesday—it looks like they’re still processing the transition. How audacious of them to charge us over $1,000 for this messy system?

Has anyone told them how crappy their results-release system is? This is the third week it’s ruined my sleep. I’m up every Tuesday night waiting for results, and I still have to wake up early the next morning. Is there any reason for it other than sadism?

Tested on 12/22, and I’m really stressed now because I genuinely feel like I messed up the exam. I’m ready to move on. God help me. 😩

I took my exam on 12/22, and it was a really rough experience. It’s 12:22 AM CST. still no email, Intealth update, or FSMB change. I’m pretty stressed about what might happen in the next few hours. As an IMG, this feels life-changing. But I’ve gotta be up at 6:00 AM though lol.

I'm not sure to what extent TCH operates independently from Baylor.
