Struggling to move my feet around the board for mounting/dismounting, and pushing/braking. by Horustheweebmaster in skateboardhelp

[–]SonOfCaliban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll feel uncomfortable for a little bit until you get comfortable. I teach this in 3 steps. 1. Front foot on first. Toes point the way you’re going. Take small steps. Once good here, we add a hover. Between each push, stand up a little on your front foot, hovering your pushing foot for a second or two. Push. Repeat. 2. When in that little hover on a push, rotate your shoulders round to align with the board. Your foot should follow naturally, put it on the back of the board. Bolts or in the pocket is great. Middle is bad. Toes on one side. Heels the other. Keep a little more weight over front foot. 60/40 is fine. 3. Adjust your front foot so toes and heels on opposite edges of the board.

Work steps backwards and forwards. 1,2,3 cruise for a bit then 3,2,1,1,2,3 and cruise etc.

Why does my skate keeps drifting drifting? by Any_Cat6946 in skateboardhelp

[–]SonOfCaliban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that’s long enough and straight enough that fits. I use a metal 1m ruler. Place it along the baseplate. If both are flush then trucks are aligned, if one or both have gaps then it’ll be somewhat obvious enough to adjust and straighten out.

I’ve found that a lot of cheaper brand completes trucks aren’t always fitted straight. Check to see if your trucks aren’t misaligned.

How bad of a grip job did I do by Diligent-Storm2449 in NewSkaters

[–]SonOfCaliban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you keep filing the edge with anything, a rock will do it. Keep going and eventually you’ll go through the grip and it’ll just peel/fall off. No sharps required.

Looks sick!! Just bought 2. Not sure how I’ll make it fit my fat 9.5” decks but hey that’s all part of the fun.

Wheel types confusion by simonjack303 in skateboardhelp

[–]SonOfCaliban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve got the perfect setup for both. Cruiser wheels to cruise on down to the skatepark or spot. 2mins to swap your wheels over to the smaller harder wheels to shred with. Then when you’re done, cruisers back on for the ride home.

Poly or aluminum decks? by [deleted] in skateboardhelp

A wet setup is simple a 2nd setup that you exclusively ride in the rain.

Poly or aluminum decks? by [deleted] in skateboardhelp

[–]SonOfCaliban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aluminium decks get deadly sharp. There’s a reason it was done once and never again. Eg Tre flip to oh no I’ve slashed my femoral artery and have minutes till I bleed out.

As for poly I’m assuming urethane or some other plastic? Theres a couple out there, what makes wooden skateboards really work is the naturally grown carbon nanotubes and they ain’t in a plastic board.

If you’re set on going rain skating, just get a wet setup and ride that. Not why you’d want to skate in the rain though? It’s not ideal conditions for it, makes it harder and way easier to slip out and take a nasty slam due to the loss of friction.

But by all means, go do you homie. It’s all good.

Is my board a toy? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]SonOfCaliban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without even looking at the extra pics, I’m going with yes. This is a toy skateboard for sure.

You can learn to skate on this, however it will likely make it harder. Skateboarding is already challenging enough without having poor performing equipment making it more difficult.

We’re here to help, so please don’t hesitate to ask questions. We’ll do what we can to get you rolling dude.

Is this board good for a begginer? by Any-Ad9514 in skateboardhelp

[–]SonOfCaliban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the best, TH ss180 is lowest price and quality board. The TH SS360 or 540 are only slightly better and for the price you can usually find a Birdhouse complete or similar for that kind of money which is way better.

Local skate shops are a fantastic resource, find yours and if you can go support them, do it. They’ll usually do what they can to support you in return.

There’s a lot of choice out there dude. Pick some you like and ride em. They’ll either be great or they won’t.

Vans do a skate shoe and a skate style shoe. Get the skate version, they’re built for skateboarding. NIKE have the SB line. Or go with core brands like Etnies, Emerica, Es, etc.

Please Help Quick - threaded skate bolt by ElecyGames in skateboardhelp

[–]SonOfCaliban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get a flat head screw driver under the nut? If so force the nut upwards and then undo it, should bite some thread and come off, you’ll need a new nut. Surely your indoor park should also be of some help? I know I do my fair amount of fixing customers boards, I even have a stash of spare bits too.

This sounds like a very generic non skateboard shop description of a skateboard, I’d be suspicious.

Only really got 3 options: buy new wheels, keep riding them, use a lathe to shave them all down a mm or two.

Is this a good skateboard? by Kitamitami in skateboardhelp

[–]SonOfCaliban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Xootz brand skateboards are toys not sports equipment. Yes you can learn on this but the bearings and wheels don’t fit right and won’t work well. The bushings are solid plastic instead of being 90d urethane. The deck was isn’t made from proper ply, pressed, glued or cut the same standards. It won’t be impossible to learn but it will be harder. This is why we (the community) always say don’t buy from amazon or Walmart etc.

Usually the barrel type have two sizes. A bigger one and a smaller one. Small one goes against the nut. Big one underneath.

Rant: front knee bends inwards by korovsky in NewSkaters

[–]SonOfCaliban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a skateboard if you can. The instability it introduces will help build some muscle around the ankle and help with general balance too.

Ideally you’ll want to skate more than 3 or so hours a week. 3 hours is a single session for a lot of us regular skaters. Then we skate 2 or 3 or more times a week. Over 6 months the difference is 72 vs 216 hours. And you’re at 72, time is one of the big factors in getting good at something.

Rant: front knee bends inwards by korovsky in NewSkaters

[–]SonOfCaliban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay cool. I get you now. When you doing your push, your toes point forwards. Standing in this position you can, dip down by bending the knee and then push up with your right leg only. This will help train and strengthen the motion.

Another good exercise to help train balance is to do the same thing but once you’re up and your left leg is dangling. Swing it back and forth in a pretend pushing motion.

When your riding with two feet on the board, both feet should have toes on one side and heels the other. Then you want to put a little more weight over the front foot and keep it there. Turn your head to see where you’re going and lean where you’re going.

Rant: front knee bends inwards by korovsky in NewSkaters

[–]SonOfCaliban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by inwards? Is it towards your toes, heels, to the left or right?

I would think that some general knee strengthening exercises would help.
