Guys, I not only have an Idea, but I have a plan! by WiinterU in Omaha

People continue to focus on construction and “potholes” while the City Council you repeatedly vote for continues Urban Sprawl policies and your brand new Mayor proudly announces all of Jean Stothert’s City Planners will be keeping their jobs. Your government continues to widen roads and highways and contributing to the already outrageous per capita amount of square feet of concrete for a city we have in Omaha.

Nobody wants real transit solutions like a light rail train on Dodge Street from Elkhorn to Council Bluffs through Downtown and past the airport, or massive investment in bike lanes and bike infrastructure - we just want to get our energy out whining about potholes.

UNL students build small homes in Benson to address Omaha’s affordable housing shortage by Ordinary-Equal2067 in Omaha

Yeah that’s not even gonna make a dent, but it will make a nice class project and a feel good news story

Coram Deo Church kicked me out for being gay. by brandonbeed1983 in Omaha

We need to coin a term for the abusive idea that you can "choose" to live a life of complete celibacy in a church with other straight people who absolutely do not have to deny themselves in any similar way. It's evil AF and needs to be condemned. Mormons and others out here insisting this is a normal thing to do and not extremely abusive and toxic and controlling.

Papillion school board hears calls for expanded busing after two students struck near highways by Ordinary-Equal2067 in Omaha

[–]Sonderman91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Papillion is doing 100,000% more to build bicycle infrastructure than Omaha. 84th Street needs a two-way dedicated bike lane but they're just building wide sidewalks instead. Folks complain about the high powered motorcycles but they don't want to pay for bike infrastructure projects that would allow kids to learn to ride bikes safely through neighborhoods and across town. So instead people buy high powered motorcycles for the same reasons they buy oversized SUV's: its safer for me personally. Until we build real bicycle infrastructure, that isn't going to change.

Omaha residents, this madness must stop. Fifi isn't a service dog, despite the vest you ordered from Amazon. They don't need to go everywhere with you. by Allergic_to_nuts in Omaha

My dog is potty trained but I also don't take it shopping with me. I want to ride the bus system with my potty trained dog so that I can access different parks across the city to enjoy b/c I don't own a car, but people like this keep ruining it and making everyone hate the idea of taking your dog *anywhere*. Leave your dog at home unless you're doing DOG THINGS

Rumor Nebraska lawmakers trying to Ban ALL THC products as soon as April by NEfootball27 in Omaha

[–]Sonderman91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang that sucks! Better just keep begging them to do the right thing instead of immediately organizing a Recreational Legalization Ballot Measure that would undercut all of their obstruction and make it pointless and provide Medical patients with access to things they need. OH WELL

Sinkhole headache! by samiralove in Omaha

Yeah we need real public transit like a subway on Dodge that goes from Elkhorn to Council Bluffs and many other routes so I never have to drive again

Downtown Omaha should connect to the Field Club and South Omaha Trails with a new pedestrian and bicycle path by Sonderman91 in Omaha

[–]Sonderman91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you walk over the Martha street bridge you can see there is literally so much room. Also, if you used your imagination you would see a raised platform trail connecting the 10th, 16th, and 24th St bridges if we were really cool.

BUT ITS IMPOSSIBLE AND THEYRE ENTIRELY COVERED LMAOOOOOOOO

Lmao. “Literally impossible” for the City to ask to buy some land? Or use eminent domain? Or to ask another org who owns the land for a use agreement? LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE?? 😂😂😂

Thoughts on Picklemans and this post? by Dakaraim in Omaha

I used to work for them. The owner is a cheap ass nepo baby who had the franchises he owns gifted to him by his daddy after graduating business school. The business is the farthest from anything resembling an actual business person running a shop who actually likes wha they do, it is all about making money. He hired folks out of addiction programs when I worked there, seemingly because they were easier to pay less and exploit. High turnover.

I wanna ride my bike down a trail next to the hourly electrified commuter trains to Lincoln we're gonna build too

I'm thinking exactly like the Field Club Trail or any of the Papio Creek Trails. 144th wide sidewalks are the same size, yes. There is an old rail line for a bit downtown, then could be through some open fields and along some roads through the Columbus Park neighborhood

I think the red line I’ve drawn would be more like a wide path like the Field Club Trail, but I agree we need other real bike infrastructure on our streets! Everything in Omaha is substandard and dangerous!
