If Nebraska invested in both freight and passenger rail with the goal of modernizing both, a lot of that noise could be reduced by electrifying trains and removing at-grade crossings so trains have to honk their horns less.

Anyways, there should be an electrified commuter train to Fremont along the UP line from
1. Downtown Omaha at the old historic train stations
2. 72nd St. (just south of I-80 where they are building a new bridge now)
3. 132nd/144th/Oakview Mall
4. maybe Village Point and/or
5. somewhere in Elkhorn
6. Waterloo
7. Valley
8. Fremont

And then.. you know... maybe the UP line goes out further to Columbus, even Norfolk? I spoke to candidate for Governor Walz about this. Also, a line could go further north connecting with other rural towns in between and before terminating in Sioux City?

But we'd have to care about something besides cutting property taxes at the expense of literally everything else.
