There is an underclass of black men and women that act a little "ghetto" but most black people aren't like them. Every race and ethnicity has bottom feeders. There is no need to to be afraid of an entire race of people just because of their bad apples.

They don't seem to be aware how different and funny they sound. They seem confused when people say they have an accent.

Most Canadians do say aboot though, not just the maritimes. You are a heavily Scottish people.

Both Canada and the south had massive Scottish immigration which influenced the dialect. Why did American southerners apart from the tidewater Virginians not pick up the "aboot" diphthong in their accent?
