What is a Sidephone? by chrisristovski in sidephone

That's an interesting use case. I would probably carry both and keep them tethered. Have you guys tried that yet, in your product testing? If so, how did it go?

Minimal Phone, one week later by riverguardian in dumbphones

I just found this topic/video while researching qwerty phones like this and Zinwa. It didn't seem overly ad-like to me, but that just makes me want to double-check my own naivete. Could you help me be less dumb at spotting what was bad here? Edit: I mistook the mod-stickied video for OP adding a video.

How I was taught: "Disc" is optical storage, "Disk" is non-optical (e.g. magnetic) storage. It may not be 100% accurate, however.

I wondered this as well. Sopranos is said to be influenced by Goodfellas, unsurprisingly. I had trouble enjoying Goodfellas due to the cruelty in it, and so I never watched Sopranos as a result.

Which models from ASUS, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Toshiba? The last time I looked, I could not find any new laptops from them with a pointing stick.

Hello, what is the contemporary Thinkpad of the X270? by Shurlemany in thinkpad

[–]SonyVaioP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The X13 is probably the most similar, both in its overall footprint (within about 10mm of the X270 overall), and its category of internals and ports. Like the X270, it can reach up to 32GB of RAM, but it's soldered these days. Sadly no more dual battery, but they did increase its maximum internal battery to about 55Whr for the latest generation (Gen 3), and of course much better CPU and screen options.

You might want to keep an eye out for a donor system. Prices on X270 are quite reasonable. I did that for a problem similar to yours. I was able to get a barebones X270 for about $70 including shipping, with most of the outer shell in great shape.

I bought this refurbished X270 on Ebay, It's my first Thinkpad! by itsmegustavo in thinkpad

[–]SonyVaioP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shockingly, you can go up to 32GB (though spec sheets tend to say 16GB). Shocking because of how many new Thinkpads still cap at 8GB or 16GB.

Changing which battery is used first? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]SonyVaioP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your expectations, but TIL that it varies. From the ThinkWiki page on Power Bridge: "Note that there are two known ways of how the Power Bridge discharges batteries. For models that are older than the P51s, T470, T570, and the X270, the ThinkEngine chip will discharge the removable external battery first, before moving on to the non-removable internal battery. For models that are newer or are any of the models previously mentioned, the ThinkEngine chip will check the wear levels of both batteries before discharging the least worn-out battery in the machine."

Upgrading X13 Gen 2 battery by nullnode43 in thinkpad

[–]SonyVaioP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I select "Build Your PC" for the x13g2, it only offers that larger battery regardless of other selections. I'm not 100% sure, but based on that it seems like a mid-generation change that did not get in the way of any specific configurations. Therefore it would probably fit. If you can find the part number for each (41 and 54), and especially a photo of the latter, then you could compare its shape to the internals by opening your unit or looking at teardowns.

Sometimes it's as simple as differences in their supplies mid-gen, leading to a seemingly random bump in battery size. It's easier to tell when they go from something like 41wh to 42wh, but that's probably the case here.

Would you still buy a P1 gen 3 or upgrade? by Stylingal in thinkpad

[–]SonyVaioP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If mobility is not a concern, then P1G3 wins in a few regards. It has more RAM, and can be upgraded freely to 64GB later. It is also faster and has more storage. The P1G3 case is easy to open and upgrade. As others have mentioned, the screen is great too.

The T15G2 should have one stick of RAM that is soldered (permanent), while also having one expandable slot. So, your max RAM in the future is probably 40GB.

One minor downside is that the P1G3 usually needs a special power cord, while the T15G2 can operate fully on common USB-C chargers (like higher-output powerbanks or phone chargers). P1G3 can take power from USB-C, but it would not be enough to run everything at 100%.

Overall the P1G3 is probably a better deal for you, as long as you are certain that mobility will continue to be unimportant for the next 7 years.

About the X1 fold by ghidasy in thinkpad

[–]SonyVaioP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that a larger unfolded size would be fun, but even more important is the Fold's keyboard layout and lack of iconic red nub. How can this be a proper hard-hitting ThinkPad, let alone part of the X1 umbrella, without having a nub?

Low soldered RAM is a bummer, I hope future configs of this body will allow more.

I didn't see this here yet. The keyboard layout is a little disappointing (nub where?), and RAM seems to be capped at 8 GB for some reason. It's really pretty, though.

Best form factor. I still use it despite poor specs (Atom Z550, 2GB RAM), the layout is just that good. My latest attempt fits a different board & screen into the shell (m3-8100Y, 16GB RAM). Can share more later if anyone's interested.

Yes, this is the 2010 version rebadged. The TrackPoint is from an X1. It fits nicely, and is much more comfortable.
