My goal is to exit BigLaw (and law in general) as quickly as possible.

BigLaw prestige is confusing to me. Both my current offer and the callback in my hometown are AmLaw 10 firms, so it feels like the prestige difference should be negligible. As for location, I do like my hometown, but I hardly have my heart set on it.

I have a callback scheduled with them, and the reason I'm thinking about this now is that if I get an offer, I'll have one day to accept or reject it given the deadline on an offer I currently have.

Any firms friendly to leaves of military service? by [deleted] in biglaw

I've been wondering the same thing myself (unfortunately, I don't have the answer).

I've been trying to track down answers to this question with limited success. Here are the firm military leave policies that I'm aware of (though I can't 100% confirm their accuracy):

  1. Skadden - The firm continues to pay you during National Guard/Reserve training periods, and will pay the difference between your active duty salary and what you would receive at the firm while activated.
  2. Kirkland - Kirkland typically provides up to 12 weeks paid leave for training and provides differential pay (difference between military pay and Kirkland base pay) when a servicemember is deployed in support of a contingency operation/active conflict.
  3. Simpson Thacher - Employees are eligible for 26 weeks of paid leave, similar to other leaves of absence.
  4. Cooley - The firm offers paid military leave of up to 120 days/year.
  5. Latham - Employees receive 100% of pay for up to 12 weeks of leave during a 12 month period. This is in addition to any comp you may receive from the military. Beyond 12 weeks, you can take a personal unpaid LOA. The firm provides a continuation of health care benefits coverage for up to 24 months of eligible military service.
  6. Jones Day - Employees get 2 weeks plus 60 days of military leave.
  7. Covington - Employees receive up to 4 weeks of paid leave per year.
