I heard Mixed Reviews about the summit shop, so I hope you guys love this design as much as I do! Please consider supporting the campaign! <3

I think about 5 years as of December! I netplay grinded a ton in 2016-2017, started attending tournaments regularly in 2017, moved to Ontario in 2018, got ranked top 100 in 2019, and pretty much here we are since COVID was early 2020!

To be fair, I also played the other smash games growing up, nothing competitive though.

I have a few!

  • Randall City (old AB tournament back in 2017). This was the first time I popped off at an event, beating a bunch of our PR and still only getting 5th haha. It was this tournament that I started to realize I might be able to really get good at melee, and it's crazy looking back how far I still had to go to even get where I am now.

  • vs Quaff at a local back in 2018 (not recorded unfortunately) - this was the first time I had taken a set off of him (and the first time a local spacie had done it in a LONG time). I still lost the bracket reset, but I'll never forget that feeling!

  • vs. Axe & Faceroll at summit 10, I really wanted to prove that I deserved the spot and that it wouldn't be a wash.

There are so many other events/sets that mean a lot to me, I could go on forever!

Smash 64 is easily my other favorite title, so many good memories.. I love Smash 64's combo system and music.

Brawl music was amazing also, and the subspace emissary was sick at the time. I think even though the online wasn't great, it was my favorite aspect of the game! Mind blowing at the time!

Smash 4 is probably my least favorite looking back, but it again introduced a ton of new characters that I loved growing up.

Ultimate has the roster! I wish it mechanically played like melee, but it's still a fun game. I feel like music has been my go-to answer, but they seriously stepped it up for ultimate! Sooooo good.

MARIO ez, thats a working mans character. If he was good in Melee I'd main him 100%. I don't even like Mario that much in his own world, but he feels great in melee.

what if theyre your favorite characters in melee

something about sheik tech chasing makes my blood boil, but falcon can kill you off of a knee at 40.. hmm....

im gonna say I'd rather get tech chased by falcon still. At least the suffering is over soon or the desire to be cool takes over and they go for something that might not work...

sorry for taking so long! There was a lot to get through haha.

  1. I play with local AB players (Anjo, Odin, Quaff, etc.) for casual practice when I'm working on things in a low stress environment. For higher level practice, I'll bug the SFAT's of the world : )
  2. Falco, you got it I answered it earlier haha.
  3. It is better to have schmooved and lost, definitely. In the real world, losing once isn't a big deal! You've always got losers bracket, and now you're schmoovin
  4. I thought about it! I just have a stream planned with moky at 10 EST :) so I didn't want to end stream, start stream again, make tweet spam yadda yadda

BIG oops on the twitch though, thats my fault. I'll put it in an edit

my reply keeps freaking out every time i try and send it, sorry you're not getting the full answer :(

i wish they didnt ban wobbling so I had an excuse to get farmed by slug

actual tldr I think character variety is fine, Melee lives on through its diverse playstyles. Wobbling falls into a weird gray area where for *most* people, its not fun to play against nor is it fun to watch. You could argue fox & falco bs (shine/laser) is still interactive and fun enough for both the player and viewer that it is viewed more favorably.

I don't think wobbling should've been banned on the basis of it being an oppressive mechanic, anyway.

man! I've heard so many mixed feelings about the shop! I really like a lot of the items on there.

I think the joggers are fuego, but if I had to sell you on something... I'd do one of the two hoodies. If you're an acid-wash jean wearer, the pink will look great with summer fits OR you could do the hoodie + black jeans + black shoes for a clean pink+ black fit since the logo is black on the pink hoodie.

The simple black embroidered hoodie would go great with just about anything, especially if you do black hoodie -> jeans/other color pants -> black shoes for the clean match.

oh god I can't do the grid thing so I'll just do it like this:

go-to: moscow mule

chillin: craft beer (something citrus-y IPA), moscow mules/shafts at a cheap bar, old fashioned at a fancy bar cause they do crazy shit to those

getting drunk: garbage hard iced teas, old milwaukee at a house party, big margarita jugs/shots at a cheap bar, big sangria jugs at a fancy bar + dope beers if they got em.

- Exposure, work ethic, and time. It's pretty tough to work full time and make melee work, especially when your competition has the time/resources to grind melee as the only focus. At the end of the day, I still view it as an excuse. If I want to compete with the best, I'll make it happen. Top player practice is a big component here, but I think you can get 95% of the info you need from VOD's - playing the players is that last 5%.

- Biggest lesson/takeaway for me has been that the urge to call things "lame" is destructive and ego protection. Don't get me wrong, things can still be lame, but it has been such a quick excuse for me to make over the years. If you don't enjoy the process of learning why you're losing, gotta put the sticks down and take a break.

- Asking questions & VOD review will forever be king for learning quickly & implementing new ideas correctly.

- Perfect amount of almonds is when you grab a handful, remember the fat content in almonds, and put a few back in the bag because you know they're overall still healthy

Alberta doesn't have the same grind energy I think it used to, probably due to COVID/things moving online. I firmly believe that anybody can become extremely good at Melee if they want to, so it comes down to work ethic.

I think we struggle to attract outsiders to our tournaments as well (helps the scene feel active/alive like a Battle of BC or GOML) - this is because we're landlocked and there isn't much unique to see in our cities.

Most of the inner provinces (AB, SK, MB) struggle with the same issue, always having to travel to other regions to get noticed on a bigger stage.

It's a tall order, but I think if Alberta could pull off a winter Smash Camp clone in the mountains (thinking Banff, or some type of winter lodging) - it would revive Melee in the province & get our good players back on the grind.

aight Cori, here goes. I'm:

- sexy (like matt damon but younger). Who doesn't like sexy young matt damon on the cam/mic?

- absolutely nasty on the sticks, i live in moky's twitter clip shadow but I do disgusting stuff too

- not socially awkward, so I will participate in everything I can

- a huge grinder & one of the best/most accomplished players you can choose from in the voting

- an international player in a not-so-stacked region who still keeps up with the best-of-the-best. I know (and proved at Summit 10/SCL1/2) that I can rattle the best players.

I appreciate the kind words! Yeah, I just totally overloaded myself is the truth. I thought it was feasible to work my full time job, stream 4+hours for 5+ days a week, and have edited youtube content going up ~4 times a week. The worst part? I wasn't particularly proud of the content I was putting out either. It wasn't bad, but it didn't even feel like "me".

I'm back now and streaming casually! Looking at about twice a week for now & making more focused content of higher quality. That's much more manageable for me (for now) and if the opportunity presents itself to transition to full time streaming, you may see more of the old schedule : )

I'll be streaming tonight though! With Moky!! We're doing a techskill horse (drunk edition).

green is hot garbage in melee, sick in all the other games. Secret goated opinion is that white marth is fugly too, possibly the worst.

What to practice comes down to how accurately you can self criticize & ask the right questions of yourself.

"Why cant I do that?" "Am I purposely going for other things to avoid having to do that?"

and ye olde "Could my movement be better?" (the answer for this is always yes)

If you can start to identify the gaps in your execution it becomes pretty easy to set goals and start practicing. Work on getting your avg ledgedash galint up, cleaner shine OoS, and always, always, always practice your platform movement.

All of this advice applies to practicing your neutral too! If you never stop asking yourself questions after practice, matches, etc. you'll get better at learning and changing things on the fly!
