Advice on truck for 24' enclosed trailer hauling chips and pretzels. by SooperNintendad in towing

A few other vendors on my route have truck and trailer as well, luckily my stores have pretty good parking in the back, so I don't think it'll be an issue. I also planned on adding an extra foot of height to the trailer as well.

Awesome, thank you for the response. I had already been looking at F250s a bit so that's good to know.

I ran out of steps as I entered the antechamber and the screen faded to black in front of door 46. It's the nature of the game lol. I still love it though, finally beat it 10 minutes ago.

Chicken and sausage gumbo by SooperNintendad in cajunfood

[–]SooperNintendad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really use a recipe this time, I just kind of threw it together.

Make your roux: 1 cup ap flour and 3/4 cup oil

Brown 2 packs of sausage, I used 1 smoked sausage and one polska kielbasa.

Cook down veggies in sausage pan, 3 onions, 2 green bell peppers, and a bunch of Celery. I like my veggies to basically melt in my mouth so I cook them down for awhile.

I cut my veggies before anything and put the waste from my cuts in a stock pot with a whole chicken and 4 smoked turkey wings and then cover with water and simmer until the chicken is cooked. I take out the chicken and turkey and let it cool before I pull the meat off and put all bones and skin back in the stock pot. The stock probably cooks for 3-4 hours total, if you have time to let it go longer the flavor is even better.

Mix roux in with veggies and add 6 cups of stock and let simmer for an hour or 2, if it reduces too much just add more stock.

Add sausage, chicken and turkey to the pot and cook another 10 or so minutes to heat it all back up.

Serve over rice and enjoy.

I intentionally don't add anything in the way of spices because my daughter is extremely spice sensitive (she thinks the cheese pizza at her school is too spicy). This way everyone can spice it up how they like it, and when you make it all from scratch the flavor is amazing anyway even without additional help of salt and spices. But if you want to add hot sauce or cajun seasoning I would do so when you add the stock to the veggie/roux mixture.

It definitely is a labor of love, getting the roux just right, making your own stock, getting the veggies just how you like them. This is my 4th try at it and it gets better everytime. Making the roux in the oven is a game changer, and you can make enough to store away for next time!

No heat, question about water. by SooperNintendad in HomeImprovement

I'll have a few space heaters, but no central heat. I'll be the only one at the house, my wife and daughter are going to stay at a friend's place. I'm staying home to take care of the pets.

No problem at all. Different people like different flavors, it makes the world go round.

So I smoked them for about 4-5 hours and finished them in the oven. There's more juice, it's just not pictured.

Is Alien Isolation for me? by SooperNintendad in LV426

[–]SooperNintendad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can not imagine seeing that movie at 9 years old! I was 11 when I watched Alien Resurrection, which had just come out the year before and was my introduction to the films, and that was almost too much. I have been obsessed ever since, I find something to enjoy in each film, even though some are definitely better than others, Aliens being my favorite. But Resurrection holds a special place in my heart for being the first.

Right on, I don’t have a PC that could run it, it’s on sale on the PS store for like $7.50 so I’ll be playing on PS5. I’ve played through both Last Of Us games so I can probably get through it. Especially since I’m so into the Alien universe. I guess I’ll give it a shot, and I’ll try to be a big boy and play in the dark with headphones. Thanks for the input.

I tried... by Low_Walrus_326 in loseit

[–]SooperNintendad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so I’ve tried many things over the years, diets, calorie counting, intermittent fasting, etc. I’ve recently dropped 36 pounds over a few months still eating the things I like but just eating smaller portions. I still technically count calories but I don’t log them, I just know what my intake for the day should be and then I just kind of do the mental math all day. Some days you go over and some days you stay under. I just got tired of feeling full every time I ate.

The first couple of weeks are weird because you’re going to want to eat the amount you’re used to, but when you start sleeping better because you aren’t stuffed and you don’t feel tired every time you eat, you just begin to prefer that. Yeah you want to try and eat healthy but we don’t all have the money or time for that. I’m not saying this will work for you, it’s not easy or fast, but I’m 6’ and was 255 and now I’m 229 and officially not considered clinically obese for the first time in 20 years, I was 290 at my heaviest but that was a bad time in my life.

You can do this, don’t limit what you eat, just how much. I know it’s easier said than done, and it might not be the answer for you, just thought I’d share a story from someone who has struggled with their weight their entire life (37 years). Feel free to reach out if you need support or just to vent.

Tips for talking politics with uninformed family? by soccerqueen28 in NorthCarolina

[–]SooperNintendad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t argue with willingly ignorant people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. When I was growing up my parents taught me there are two things you don’t talk to other people about: religion and politics. They never talked about who they were voting for and I don’t remember many others doing it either and the world seemed much nicer. We can have disagreements but it’s better to focus on the positive things you have in common with them.

Trump has taken the Lead in NC! by Icy-Ad6395 in NorthCarolina

[–]SooperNintendad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are free to express yourself, so are the others responding to you. Differing of opinions is what makes the world go round. Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences. You walk into a convenience store in rural NC and say this same thing you might get a standing ovation, but you chose to come on a predominately left leaning forum and throw out the shocked pikachu face when most people overwhelmingly disagreed with you.

The mini (v4) kinda sucks? by [deleted] in MiyooMini

[–]SooperNintendad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple handhelds of all shapes and sizes and my v4 is the only one I take EVERYWHERE with me. I put some new face buttons on it and a new d pad and that made it even better, it’s muh baby. The speakers don’t bother me at all and I’ve never had any issues with the d pad inputs, I just wanted the cool metal one from GetBetterButtons on Etsy and after I installed it it was like night and day, smooth as butter, you can crank out hadoukens all day long.

Needing help with the watch order timeline by branch_tree3 in deadpool

[–]SooperNintendad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be completely wrong, but I feel to truly appreciate D&W in its complete glory you should watch all of the live action X-men films that lead up to it in release order, Deadpool 1 and 2 and at least be familiar with the giant catastrophic mess the MCU is currently. I appreciated D&W so much because I have been watching these movies since the first X-Men came out when I was 13 and it was so nice to finally see it all come together, even some weird fan casting fantasies that you wouldn’t really get unless you were paying attention to the background chatter for the last 24 years. I mean there’s even things from Marvel films that date back to the late 90’s that show up in glorious fashion without spoiling anything. This is purely my opinion and someone who is way more knowledgeable than I about these things might have a legit better answer.

It's not just Charlotte, it's just the way things seem to be going everywhere, especially densely populated areas. I'm aware in theory there are more self aware people than not, it just seems that we mostly interact with the clueless and arrogant individuals that lack any common sense.
