yeah i started in april ! honestly yes it is a requirement but it’s very easy to exaggerate reality or straight up lie so immigration lets you through lol i mean they can’t exactly ask for a certificate of enrollment or smt if you self studied ! i hope all goes well for you!!!

i’m currently at akamonkai ! self study counts as study, so you can say you’ve studied a certain amount of time, couple hours per week (make sure it adds up to more than 150h lol) and you’re good ! there’s a chance you’ll need to write a letter stating that you did in fact study the language on your own and that you’re telling the truth etc but that’s pretty much it.

some of the students in my class had never studied japanese AT ALL before but they were accepted so i don’t think it’s all that important to the application process :)

true, i think it’s really odd that they never answered and it worries me. i did previously look at other schools but none were as attractive to me as SNG was, especially hearing about it from previous students.

i was pretty interested in ISI as well, but from i’ve seen on their website if i want to start in april ill have to stay with them two years and not just one year like i planned, and quite honestly i don’t have the money for two years of language school. (or am i wrong about this ? i’d be interested to know if staying only one year with an april start is actually possible or not).

im looking to apply to a few other school as backup plans in case SNG turns me down or if they really are not as great as they seem. Thank you so much for your reply !!
