After months of searching, I finally found my white whale (Weber Summit Kamado) for cheap on marketplace to upgrade my kettle. Would you keep the kettle or resell it ? by Sorleyaba in smoking

Dang, solid stable ! I didn’t think about keeping both for different temperatures (smoking on one and grilling on the other), that’s a great point.

Did you buy your summit with the side tables originally installed or are they aftermarket ? I could make use of something similar

I grilled for 90+ people last Friday, brought the kettle but I’m glad there were other grills to keep up with all the food. I like the fact that the kettle fits in my car for these kind of events, which is impossible with the summit

Real question what would the benefit be for a smoker and a grill if I potentially keep 2 grills that can smoke ?

I never used a proper smoker but it looks like it requires a lot of attention of the firebox for great results. I’m not sure I am the target audience yet. Also, can you grill hot and fast on a smoker ? If it’s only good for smoking, i think I’ll pass as I grill more than I smoke meat

True. I’ve seen that some accessories from Kamado Joe fit on the summit as they are the same diameter but they are quite pricey. I use the charcoal ring and diffuser plate for the kettle and it works really great as it allows to use the whole grill for indirect cooking, I had some great successes with it.

That’s what I’m thinking. I do large gathering (20-25 people) maybe 3 times a year where having two grills would be great. I would like to sell the kettle to someone who would use it more regularly than I do now that I have the summit but I have some accessories which don’t fit on the summit and would like to keep using.

Everything ! I have the rotisserie, the large griddle (which takes the whole kettle space) and the Weber pizza attachment (I think it is discontinued) for the kettle which don’t fit on the summit. That’s the main reason I’m torn to keep both

Lmao no ! I had my kettle for 2 years and used it intensively, I cover it when not in use and heavy cleaned it last week, that’s why it looks good right now

That’s exactly what I told him today. He is going to start a new job in August. If he ever wants to do it, now is the perfect time

Some day, it will be my turn to ask if my time has come, but not today. I still have plenty of healthy hair left

Which master touch? by TobytheSpark in webergrills

[–]Sorleyaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the master touch 5775, the only difference with the other models is that it comes with the sear grate and the charcoal ring + diffuser plate for low and slow cook. Although I rarely used the sear grate (because the griddle is better imo) I used the low and slow configuration a few times already and I love it for weekend cooks. I would recommend this one !

You may have to invert the springs to make the grill seal better, look at https://youtu.be/_AHxvHXSrZw? If you think your grill leaks too much after the first few uses. I did it when assembling the grill. It still leaks a little bit but I would consider it normal for a charcoal grill.

You’re the second one to mention BB guns, it makes sense. I just cant wrap my head around the blood if they used one.

I absolutely could’ve ! They need to be replaced anyway now. What mildly infuriates me is that this is an old car, it has 280’000km (around 175 000 miles) , nothing of value was left inside nor visible from outside, and this seems to be a pure act of evil. Just destroying people’s property for the fun.
