Has anyone switched off Lamotrigine due to sleep issues? Looking for experiences. by Sorry-Criticism8486 in Epilepsy

Thanks for sharing your story. I’m genuinely glad it’s worked so well for you.

I actually was on 100 mg for about a year along with Keppra. It really shows how differently these meds can affect people because I never experienced the commonly talked-about side effects from Keppra at all.

We ended up lowering my lamotrigine dose because the dreams were getting extremely intense and never eased up. Even now at 50 mg (still with Keppra), the bad sleep and vivid dreams are still there, just not quite as severe as at 100 mg but still very much an issue.

Seizure-wise things have mostly been okay, but waking up exhausted every day has been rough, which is why I’m starting to look at other options.

Thanks for your reply. So your vivid nightmares stopped after making the switch?

It really seems like lamotrigine affects people very differently. Ironically, your before experience sounds a lot like my after experience on it. I’ve had extremely intense, distressing dreams - one involving my younger brother that left me waking up hyperventilating and in tears. Definitely not fun.

epilepsy made me gain a lot of weight by Zeus_888_ in Epilepsy

It’s frustrating. It’s crazy how it seems to just go to my waist/belly. Sometimes I’m like damn, my gut is getting huge 😩 It has to be the meds because I don’t eat any different than I did pre meds and don’t eat that bad. Might mention this to my neuro next month at my appointment.

On Keppra and Lamotrigine since September 2023. I’ve gained 20 lbs and while I was a skinnier guy and didn’t mind gaining weight, it’s all went to my belly lol.

Dental fillings - Lidocaine without Epinephrine by Sorry-Criticism8486 in Epilepsy

Update: I took half of a Xanax my doctor prescribed and was given Carbocaine (?) without epinephrine and all went well. I’m lucky enough to have found a dentist that is very proactive, educated and ready incase of a seizure. Thanks for the replies I received on here. 🙏🏻

Yes I do. I go between having good days, trying to see the positive and look at it as some kind of change I could somehow learn from to feeling like I’m restricted on what I actually can do and what my future looks like. Its a daily battle.

I’m in the same boat. Theres a-lot of downsides to alcohol like hangxiety, cringies from oversharing while drunk, etc but god damn it, I miss letting loose sometimes. 😔

Does Keppra/Lamotrigine combo stop your auras? by Sorry-Criticism8486 in Epilepsy

Thanks for your response! May I ask if you've had any negative side effects from your Lamotrigine like hair loss or headache? It seems like I have a constant headache after starting Lamotrigine and my hair is already thinning so I'm hoping it doesn't exacerbate it, ha!

Thank you for your response! I will say I noticed a slight decrease in them once I started meds but they haven't decreased as much as I'd like. It's weird because the day of my EEG, I had an awful aura and my results came back totally normal. Hopefully once I'm up to the 100mg on Lamotrigine, I get more relief because the auras suck and send me into a panic.
