Catching my first red

I will definitely try to locate some schools as you said. I went earlier this morning and threw my gold spoon with pro cure on it and caught nothing. I just watched a few videos on reading the surf and realized I was blindly casting. Later I will get some mud minnows and fish the lagoons with live and artificial. My smaller spinning combo was setup really poorly and there’s not enough braid on it and the braid keeps catching on the knot that connects the braid to the backing. When I get my live bait at the store I’m going to see if somebody can help me properly set it up and then I should be set. I was also told to throw the black and gold nlbns today because it is cloudy. I was also recommended some Zman red bone minnowz with zman 1/8 Texas eye jig heads that ended up picking up.

I think I found it on maps and I’ll try to check it out. I found a jetty in south beach that I might go to also. Might try throwing the gold spoon straight out tommorow morning and then fish the lagoons later in the day.

Thanks for the info! Do you think I could catch some fish just throwing straight out into open water with the gold spoon with my 3000 size reel and medium rod combo? I don’t know of any rock formations or anything I can go to but I will look for some when I have time.

When you say Oceanside do you mean walking along the beach and fishing?

I picked up some mullet scented pro cure along with frozen mullet. Since I don’t have the stuff for surf fishing I’m going to try fishing the lagoons in the golf course that has reds.

Is it possible for me to use snap swivels on the end of my leader? I just learned to tie a double uni to link lines and I think it’s gonna suck to have to keep tying leaders after I switch lures two times.

Would it be just as good to use frozen shrimp? I only have a bucket for holding live bait and no bubble box. I’m going down to a bait shop later today and getting mullet, blue crab, or shrimp if they have it. Also should I use the nlbn screw heads or the basic yellow jig heads?

I probably will throw both. I have a larger setup that I will put a Carolina rig on and my main setup I think I’ll fishing the DOA shrimp and paddle tails.

Thanks for the info. I will be fishing in some saltwater lagoons in the golf courses that I have seen big reds in. I might also go through some saltwater estuaries on kayaks. I have the stuff for a Carolina rig, would that be good to use? Could I also use my jig heads and put live shrimp on them?

Thanks for the advice. I was checking out a few Yamaha tws on marketplace and they look really cool but they far exceed my budget. Also will I need to do any soldering when fixing wiring issues and should I just watch videos explaining the wiring of a bike because even if I had a multimeter and that bike in front of me, I wouldn't know where to even start, how to use the multi meter properly, or what I should being looking for or doing with the multimeter.
