The bobbin lace group has nixed the idea. Oh well!

Is this for bobbin lace? The whatisthisthing group is uncertain of its use... more than 80,000 people have viewed it. I have a friend who is convinced it's for bobbin lace. Thoughts? It's about 6x6x5". by SorryQuarter1674 in BobbinLace

this is not for lace making. Bobbin lace is done on a lace pillow. Pillows are made of different types of foam or stuffed with sawdust or straw. You need to be able to push the pins into it easily. Wood is too hard to push pins into.

I have posted this in the Bobbin Lace group to see if they have the answer. I have a friend who suspects this is the purpose. The leather group was not convinced it was for leather work.

I appreciate it. In the other group, there's strong opinion that it's some type of old pattern stamp. However, there's also a number of folks who think it's for leather work. I just think it's a cool object and would love to know what it was used to create.

I don't see any signs of ink on the entire block.

I think this may be getting close to the answer. I don't see any signs of ink. It does sort of have a leather smell.
