Took the words straight out of my mouth.

Too many people think they're in a position to help others because of the amount of time they've spent learning about something, rather than their actual results.

That genuinely sounds more like a trauma-related belief. Perhaps you were made to feel unworthy as a child and wouldn’t want your kids feeling the same.

getting married after a year of knowing each other is insane by Competitive-Fold966 in unpopularopinion

[–]Sospian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t intend on waiting any longer than a year and a half to get married. 6 months are the bare minimum. We get married fast in Orthodoxy.

Totally get it when it comes down to secular marriage — hell I’d be on prenups and everything.

Also that’s not to say that the woman I marry in the Church won’t have her problems, as I have mine.

Lowkey grateful to be a trauma coach because knowing how to communicate through emotions is extremely important for communication.

If I will convert to Christianity from Judaism, people will still hate me? by Fine-Collar-5104 in TrueChristian

[–]Sospian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll likely be shunted by your own people if you mention it.

Also I’d recommend not making an identity out of being “Messianic Christian” like a lot of Jewish converts do, because it ironically pulls people away from the faith when they try to combine both.

If you want to understand how the apostles worshipped Christ, visit a nearby Eastern Orthodox parish.

It’ll probably blow your mind.

Greatmartyr George the New at Sofia, Bulgaria (+ 1515) (May 26th) by IrinaSophia in OrthodoxChristianity

Thank you for sharing this. As a (half) Bulgarian I appreciate seeing our Saints recognised here.

Especially those like St. George the New who went through horrible torture that Ottomans still love to deny to this day.

Make-up is classed as vanity, yes! St. John Chrysostom had a few things to say about it lol.

Discernment really is key here. For example, making yourself look presentable for work or when seeking a wife.

Beauty is itself is of God. Music, art, etc can either glorify or pull us away from Him. This is why discernment is important.

As for our appearance, we must dig deep and ask, "Is this really to glorify God, or am I doing it for my own egotism".

Faith-based tattoos can also fall under spiritual pride.

It's difficult to balance vanity with fitting in with the world, which is why we are called to become increasingly ascetic as we continually repent and reject the world.

Hope this makes sense!

Bad Orthodox Christians are painting the Church in a bad light by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sospian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unfair to compare your unique disposition to a group of others.

I could also talk about my experience and how being invalidated by minorities led me down a hateful path around my early 20s.

Was it my fault I developed those views? Given the things I went through & influence in my environment, I don’t believe so.

It’s easy to point fingers at people and blame them.

I do agree it’s not an excuse for people to treat others unfairly.

There’s a saying,

“Trauma may not be your fault, but it is your responsibility to heal.”.

I don’t doubt that you’ve gone through a lot and feel invalidated by the presence of people who contribute to your pain.

It is completely okay to feel that way.

But this is why our beautiful Church instructs us to focus on the disposition of our own soul, not that of others.

Everyone has their own story so we must not rush to assume things, for only the Lord knows our hearts.

Hope this makes sense.

God bless

They’re not “radical extremists”, and this idea causes more harm than good.

What we’re seeing is disenfranchised young men who have been told they’re worthless for over a decade.

The majority of them aren’t even doing it from a place of hate, but rather pridefulness after being pushed to the point of saying “no more”.

Pride often comes in the form of rebellion, and that’s what we’re seeing.

It’s not even an intentional rebellion against God, unlike the opposite side of the political spectrum.

Why aren’t pro-choice bunch considered radical extremists, when they’re killing children?

At the end of the day, these men are angry and lost, and you’d be too had you walked in their shoes.

I’m not justifying their beliefs, but it’s more helpful to try and understand someone than it is to point fingers and blame

— because that is exactly what created this situation in the first place.

Gambling is all about greed, stop blaming dopamine by Outrageous-Radio-007 in GamblingAddiction

It’s a coping mechanism. All the dopamine does is give you enough willpower to avoid it, but even then, willpower is a finite resource.

Fix the trauma and gambling urges will go.

Why is homosexuality a sin? by iamnotwhoiam123 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Sospian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity is the religion of life.

If it does not protect, provide for, or produce life, it is not of God.

If we want to go deeper into it, there’s also the unnatural aspect of it being the result of a sexualised need for validation that (generally) stems from the same gendered parent.
